I was going to post excerpts from the (Left Angeles) Slimes on this today, so thanks for saving me most of the effort.
;^)
Their title was In Florida's War Against Canker, Judge Squashes Seeds of Tyranny
My favorite quotes (besides your "In blistering language that invoked the revolt by American colonists against the British, Circuit Judge J. Leonard Fleet said the canker-eradication law returned this state to a period in time when the rights of an individual were at the mercy and whim of royalty.:
- The removal of trees has been stopped occasionally by lawsuits, and some property owners have taken up arms to protect their trees from the state's chainsaws.
- "The rights of a relative few," McElroy said, were prized over the interests of the single biggest sector of Florida's agriculture industry, one that employs more than 100,000 people. (Uh, welcome to America, McElroy.)
- Larry Galinkin, 59, who owns a tree nursery in Delray Beach in Palm Beach County, said the homeowners who sued are selfish. "They only care about their own tree," he said.
- "Their whole policy is based on junk science," Meyers said. "In fact, we proved at the hearing that the way they cut down trees actually spreads the disease."

"Larry Galinkin, 59, who owns a tree nursery in Delray Beach in Palm Beach County, said the homeowners who sued are selfish. "They only care about their own tree," he said.Right -- and Larry's just an altruist, who doesn't give a hoot about his tree nursery.
Note to Larry: grow something else, or better yet, move to Cuba -- citrus grows well there.

Actually I just caught a typo of mine. It was "their one tree". A tyrannical rat ba$tard like the McElroy guy.
(It's the individual, stupid.)
You're right, browardchad, they should move a little further south. Plenty of sunshine and lots of fascism. Hasta la vista!

The people enforcing this "law" are a bunch of apparatchik creeps.
Last week I was pulling into my driveway only to find it blocked by a new white Ford van with a State of Florida insignia on the door. I rolled down my window and the cretin inside snarled "what do you want".
I replied in my best New York-ese that I wanted him to get the F*** out of my driveway.
He moved over to the next house and parked on their lawn.
I parked, got out of my car, and walked over to see what was up.
With pissed off looks on their faces the 4 "public servants" inside waved their ID badges at me and informed me that they were looking for citrus trees.
I told them that I didn't happen to have any citrus trees to which they replied that they knew that was true because they had already entered my LOCKED backyard to verify same.
I shook my head and walked inside, hoping that the United States Constitution would eventually catch up with them.
It temporarily has,but the clowns on the Florida "Supreme Court" will put a stop to that as soon as they can.
The problem is that this is happening under Jebs administration, and that he is going to appeal this ruling.
Citrus is important to this state, I am all for protecting the industry, but the industry are the ones who should be footing the bill, not homeowners.
I guess I shouldn't complain too much, If Reno gets elected the goons in the van will have flamethrowers.

Jeb Bush SHOULD be championing freedom and individual rights as per the Constitution of the U.S. of A. and Florida, but... I grow weary of the brothers Bush trampling freedom in the name of the false god Security.
You may have Security, or you may have Freedom, but never both at one time.
The brothers Bush seem to be counting on the fact that their Democrat party opponents are so despicable that no sane or living person would vote Democrat.
