I had the opportunity to watch the live broadcast of President's Bush's address and Q&A at St Petersburg University. I remarked to a friend of mine about what a good looking crowd of students attended the event. Based upon what I saw, I'd say that Russia has a very promising future. I think that with 10 more years of market economy in Russia, they'll be our number one trading partner and our need to appease Western Europe will come to an end.

More than you might think. Gun control has been loosening up in Russia, and even in Soviet Russia was not as strict as say New York City or Washington DC. My brother-in-law's father-in-law lives in a former Soviet country and has several privately owned firearms since Soviet times. No handguns though, just hunting (aka "Sniper") rifles and shotguns. BiL's wife is a deadly shot too, even with handguns (single action cowboy type) which she never shot until she came to Texas! She can also field strip and reassemble an AK while blindfolded, and is almost (but not quite) as decorative (and probably as fiesty) as Ms.Fedorova.
