LOL!!! That is because he never said it -- I was going to post that comment on that thread but decided to go with the speech itself and let the facts speak for themselves!

"How about showing a profit."

Yep...and pay it back to us shareholders in the form of an annual dividend.

I have noticed Bush ends the speech with "MAY God bless America." He is so humble he can't bring himself to tell God to bless the country, but only feels he can say a little prayer at the end of his speeches for God to do so even with our sin. That is my interpretation anyway and it makes me think even more of Bush.

I think you are right! I had never thought about the way he says MAY God Bless America! Glad you pointed that out!

"...in DoD that is how they get rid of SES's -- reorganize!"

I would sooooo love to see a bunch of overpaid, underworked mid-level Federal bureaucRATS get handed their walking papers while simultaneously strengthening our National Security...if they happen to be Clintonoid Senior Executive Service (SES) positions, all the better!!

"The reason to create this department is not to increase the size of government, but to increase its focus and effectiveness. The staff of this new department will be largely drawn from the agencies we are combining. By ending duplication and overlap, we will spend less on overhead, and more on protecting America."

Hey hutch, regarding that question I asked you on another thread, I believe this transcript seems to answer it. No new spending, so no new taxes...HUZZAH!! HUZZAH!! HUZZAH!!

Too bad he didn't recommend closing another department down to balance this one. I can think of a few that I wouldn't miss.

"Wonder if Rush will oppose it tomorrow."

Walter Williams will be sitting in for Rush tomorrow, so we won't get his analysis of the speech until Monday, but he was supportive of Bush's efforts today. To be fair, the only times Rush chides Dubyuh is when Bush grows the Federal Guv'ment...and from what Dubyuh said tonight, we may in fact be shrinking it--although that remains to be seen in action.

Thanks for posting President Bush's speech in its entirety, PKM. I missed it and was glad to be able to read and study it carefully.

Once again, he's right on the mark, and the dims are probably scrambling at this very moment. He certainly keeps them hopping, doesn't he? It seems that Gephardt has decided to jump on the Bush bandwagon, though, which is curious.

Only the United States Congress can create a new department of government.

Wait, is it just my imagination? or has the Congress been screaming that Homeland Security must be a cabinet position?

Nah, I must be imagining things.

Bush always amazes me. While we are fussin' and fightin' protecting him against those that rant and rave that if he doesn't do ''''''''', he won't get my vote; while the democrats are accusing him of everything they can to tarnish his image; while investigations are called to get something on him, Bush is working unfazed. He then comes out with a solution well thought out, well researched and well planned.

This reminds me of his actions during the election fiasco where he was back at the ranch working on his plans for the presidency and he had turned over the election battles to Baker. During the China incident, and then the war on terror - Bush is working on solutions while not allowing Washington to rattle him.

We could have a Bush that is out there doing revenge against his enemies, fighting back with petty actions, calling names, setting the dogs on the past administration for past crimes. Yet, we have one that goes about the business of doing what is best for this country.

I am proud to fight those that try and tarnish this president.

They also look at the core Democrat constituencies (screeching feminists, environmental whackos, victim-culture minorities, gay and lesbian condom throwers, welfare parasites, etc., etc., and ask themselves, "Why do I vote with these people?"

well said!

You know Cindy, I can tell you that I've been somewhat critical myself. And of course only time will tell, but you know the collapsed morals, education system, corrupt politicians, and general decay WE see everyday? Well our president was given ALL of THAT to govern when he was elected. I can't even seem to change one little school district.

GW can't just say it and make it so. If he doesn't plan strategically he'll get NOTHING passed. Hopefully, if conservatives can win back the senate and keep the house we can move more quickly, but Daschle even now is talking of MORE Jim Jefford defections because there were no consequences to him doing it last time. Certainly the media will celebrate if Puff pulls it off again.

Do you remember President Bush specifically saying in his address that this was not to EXPAND government but to CONSOLIDATE it? I beleive that was a message to us, his base. And I thank him for it, and wish him well. Believe me, it's easy to say things in such black and white voices, but it probably would mean we would never be elected. So how much would we accomplish?

How silly of me, of course you are correct.

There is a good scene in Clacy's 'Sum of all Fears' where Morgan Freemen goes into a Congressional Intelligence Hearing and Jack Ryan goes 'Oh I see these on C-SPAN all the time..' and Freemen goes 'I'll bet youve never seen this on C-SPAN!' as they are walking into the select hearing.

I still can't believe Gary Condit is on that committee!
