They say they want a high death tax to avoid a large class of Americans with inherited wealth. Yet most of these "responsible wealth" participants have themselves engaged in careful and expensive estate-tax planning to prevent paying enormous death taxes themselves. Ted Kennedy and Jay Rockefeller both voted against death-tax repeal, yet you can be sure that neither of their billionaire families has paid more than a few peanuts in inheritance taxes over the past 50 years.

We should have a public inquiry about these Senators and Mark Dayton (D-Minn) about how their families have avoided the death tax. To be fair the loopholes should be closed retroactively and all back taxes paid with interest or the tax repealed totally today!

The latest tactic by the greed-and-envy crowd has been to enlist the guilt-ridden super rich into a group called Responsible Wealth. Responsible Wealth is nothing more than a group therapy lesson for rich Americans who feel liberal guilt for their own success—in most cases derived from the free market capitalist system that they now attack. This group includes such luminaries as Bill Gates, Sr. and Warren Buffet.

Guilt-ridden, my ass. These people have got theirs, and want to pull up the ladder before the next generation of aspiring successful people can climb it high enough to compete with them.

From this post:

Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., lists among his assets five Kennedy family trust funds in the $9 million to $45 million range. He reported unearned income of $500,000-$5 million from family trusts and $30,000-$100,000 from investment funds. Among honoraria donated to charity was $16,500 from appearances on the weekly "Face Off" radio program.

A vote for pubbie John Thune over Johnson in S.D. is a step in the right direction for dismantling Daschle's abuse of power to the detriment of all fifty states.

I think that Dubya has figured something out. My relatives live in Sioux Falls and Dubya's been up there almost as often as he's visited Florida. Even my dem relatives get happy feet when Dubya's in town.

Didn't multi-millionaire by marriage McCain vote against the pubbies again on this issue? Those who have money want to keep there's but they don't want those who have future money to ever get it. That elitism and taxation without representation.

Thanks for the ping. I've been outta town for a couple of days and come back to this crap!

Bet there's a bunch of SoDak farmers who don't want to see their land sold upon death to pay the taxes on their accumulated hard work and stewardship of prosperous farms.

Thune, Thune, Thune.

Maybe the Senate could pass a bill like Huckaby in Arkansas.

Voluntary Tax My Huge Wealth Accumulation "Bill"

Warren Buffet, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Bill Gates, Sr., could all be the first to volunteer, and graciously pay 75% of their net worth at death.

Just to show us plebians how TRULY selfless they really are.
