Not wanting to start a flame war or bash anyone's religion, but can anyone tell me in a few non-inflamatory sentences, what it is that Unitarians believe?

Sorry, but it looks like Elwin is one of ours. I don't think there are too many Rev. Elwin Schwabs in Oregon. I would have thought that the AP would have played up the Catholic angle.

Oh man. There's no end to this crap.

I doubt that he belongs to a normal Catholic group, like Dignity.

This clown is almost certainly a Protestant...

Why? Because he stepped down on his own instead of trying to get transferred by his superiors?

what it is that Unitarians believe?

The original thing was the elimination of the Trinity. I think the movement began way back in the 1500s in Geneva with a guy named Cervantes, but I'm not sure.

Today in practice it means you can believe everything and nothing.

Larry Lied is a Unitarian and thought this was a pretty good description.

"...what it is that Unitarians believe?"

From what I gleam from past Unitarians, they believe in a kind of a general Supreme Being.
Christians believe in a specific, personal God as He revealed Himself to Abraham, and came down to earth in the body of the man Jesus Christ, (fully man and fully God), and died on the cross for the redemption of man, (who REALLY needs redeeming), that whosoever believes in Him shall have eternal life.

Having read the information at your link, the only analogy I could come up with is that the Unitarians are the Libertarian Party in a theological sense. Cohesive, aren't they? I wonder how many Libertarians are Unitarians as well.

Here's the story - Catholic Church members and Pastor (is that the same as a priest? Doesn't say..)

Bad games lead to 'Go-to-jail' card Man, 2 women arrested, jailed charged with playing 'sex games' with 2 teen girls
6/11/02
By Ian Rollins The Argus

FOREST GROVE -- Police have announced the arrest of three people, including a husband and wife, for playing sex games with two teenage girls multiple times over the last two years.

Howell William Marsh and Bonny Marie Marsh, both 43, and Kimberly Ann Tasa-Ralph, 46, are lodged in the Washington County Jail on multiple sex charges, ranging from first-degree rape to using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.

The three were arrested on Wednesday, then arraigned in Washington County Circuit Court on Thursday. Howell Marsh faces three charges each of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, and two charges of first-degree sex abuse.

Tasa-Ralph faces the same three charges of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, as well as three charges of third-degree sodomy.

The three are scheduled for trial on July 23.

A month-long police investigation revealed that Tasa-Ralph and the Marshes had been playing sexual games with the girls for the last few years, at the Marshes' home in the 3300 block of Main Street. One of the games included drawing numbers, which corresponded to various sex acts, which the suspects then would perform with the girls.

Lt. Aaron Ashbaugh, Forest Grove Police, said detectives first learned of this after one of the girls told someone else of the alleged abuse. That person told the police, he said.

The indictments cover incidents as far back as 1996, said Lesowski, but most of the abuse happened within the last two years.

When asked about the relationships between the suspects and victims, Ashbaugh would only say that the suspects and victims knew each other. Ashbaugh also said the acts appeared to be consensual, that nothing was forced on anyone.

Ashbaugh also said that, in 25 years, he's never seen anything like this before. It's not unusual to use all kinds of ways to 'groom' the victims, he said. It's possible the games were part of the 'grooming' process. But I've never seen games as part of the process.

I can't find the words to describe it. Disturbing might cover it.

Howell and Bonny Marsh are being held in the Washington County Jail on $2.75 million and $1.75 million bail, respectively. Tasa-Ralph also is in jail, on $780,000 bail.

The three are members of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Forest Grove. They had received a blessing for a three-person marriage from that church's priest, Father Elwin Schwab.

Apparently, he did participate in some kind of blessing, said Bud Bunce, communications director for the Archdiocese of Portland. Any priest who would do something like that is acting contrary to church law and church practice.

Schwab has since announced that he will resign. The archdiocese now must decide whether or not accept the resignation. That won't happen until next week, as the archbishop is out of town this week, Bunce said.

Schwab would not comment on the situation.

An Oregon pastor who blessed the relationship of a threesome says he's a "sucker" who only wants "to help people."

I'm not sure if 'sucker' is the right word here pastor. I can think of at least five more appropriate descriptions of what you are.

"This clown is almost certainly a Protestant, I wonder which flavor."

No, this clown isn't even a Christian, contrary to what he might profess or whatever title he puts in front of his name. His sorry excuse that "they just kept pressuring him" is total BS. No true Christian minister (of any denomination) would cave in to something so antithetical to Biblical doctrine just because someone whined a lot. Too many pastors, priests, missionaries, etc., have given their lives rather than go against God's teachings. This guy is a sad, pathetic joke, but he's no Christian.

Foot taste good?

Though not Catholic, I have fought attacks on your church from the immature jerks who spam every thread with their vile accusations. However, such derogatory posts do not help your cause, my friend.

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.
Proverbs 25:21-22
Or, in the words of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; ...where there is injury, pardon;

...where there is doubt, faith;

...where there is despair, hope;

...where there is darkness, light;

...where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek ...to be consoled as to console;

...to be understood as to understand;

...to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

...it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

...and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Cohesive, aren't they?

A congregation in Brookline, MA held a burial service for a tree several years ago. I'm not kidding. It was an old tree that had to be cut down for a construction project or something.

I remember hearing the story on the radio.

What do they believe?

Anything........ Everything............. Nothing...................

The 'religious' I'm OK; You're OK folks.

How Many Christians Does it Take to Change A Lightbulb?

Unitarians: ??
We choose not to make a statement either in favor of or against the need for a light bulb. However, if in your journey you have found that light bulbs work for you, that is fine. You are invited to write a poem or compose a modern dance about your personal relationship with your light bulb, and present it next month at our annual light bulb Sunday service in which we will explore a number of light bulb traditions, including incandescent, fluorescent, three-way, long-life and tinted, all of which are equally valid paths to luminescence.

Charismatic: Only one.
Hands are already in the air.

Pentecostals: Ten.
One to change the bulb and nine to pray against the spirit of darkness

Presbyterians: None.
Lights will go on and off at pre-determined times.

Roman Catholic: None.
Candles only.

Baptists: At least 15.
One to change the light bulb and three committees to approve the change and decide who brings the fried chicken, potato salad and iced tea.

Episcopalians: Eight.
One to call the electrician, and seven to say how much they liked the old one better.

Mormons: Five.
One man to change the bulb and four wives to tell them how to do it.

Methodists: Undetermined.
Whether your light is bright, dull or completely out, you are loved - you can be a light bulb, turnip bulb, or tulip bulb. Church wide lighting service is planned for Sunday, August 19. Bring a bulb of your choice and a covered dish.

Nazarene: Six.
One woman to replace the bulb while five men review church lighting policy.

Lutherans: None.
Lutherans don't believe in change.

Amish: ??
What's a light bulb?
