Let us know where you end up. We'll keep it in mind for our future college students.

Good for you.
My brother, who's a moderately liberal Democrat had his heart set on being an English professor. While getting his M.A. in English Lit at NYU, he became so disheartened by the lazy commie flunkies he had for profs, he bagged the idea for a Ph.D., and went into publishing.

It seems strange that the Dean would reduce the available pool of applicants at a time when qualified engineers are at a premium. However, there may be another explanation, he, and I'm assuming it's a he, may be looking at the future by getting more mileage out of a fresh-faced "kid" of 35 who will be competing for research funds for close to three decades.

I find it ironic that I had this discussion today with both my physics and calculus instructors. I admit I am in a unique situation at Embry: the six areas of concentration are aeronautic science, engineering (AE, EE, CE, EP), computer science, math, physics and aviation business.

...but alas, how will you avoid the union dues? The best I can do is snarf down so many donuts at the union meetings that I am assured they are forced to use my dues to pay for the donuts I eat.

Wow, Senator Pardek! Long time, no see! (Maybe it's me!)

Amazing coincidence. I also had initially settled upon a Ph.D. in English lit. But by the end of my B.A. I was so steeped in lesbian, Guatemalan marxist, Steinish crap I couldn't handle it. It occured to me that my options were: write the 100,000th dissertation on Jane Austen (and perhaps win a free coffee mug and some coupons), write the 1,100,000 dissertation on Emerson (one of the dreaded "dead white guys"), or write a diss on Ayn Rand and be brushed off because her writing lacked nuance and subltety (unlike the sledgehammer approach of "The Jungle", for instance. HA!).
Now I'm in Anthropology, and having spent 3 years here, I fear neither hell nor marriage.

The school that he's talking about is the University of Delaware. The senior history professor is the advisor for my organization, the University of Delaware chapter of the Young Americans for Freedom. Mr. Horowitz visited UD on November 29, 2001.
