For the past couple of days I have been thinking that it was only a matter of time before her exhusband was blamed.

"She's not a full-fledged jerk or anything. She's a caring person who made a mistake," the pastor said.

Don't sell her short, Rev, she's at least a half-fledged jerk.

But what is really staggering about this story is its chilling resemblance to the 1984 wife-abuse saga The Burning Bed —

The Storyline for both is the same: "Wife sets fire to solve problem with abusive husband."

But, unless the ranger thought her husband would be killed by the fire, I think there is a better comparison for her..to the PLO or Al Qaeda.

They, too, think it is okay to take out anger on innocent bystanders. In the Burning Bed, the wife goes after the perpetrator. If this ranger knew she was endangering innocent people, she is (at least somewhat) like current terrorists.

The "PLO-like excuse" -- that unresolved problems with an abusive person make harming an innocent bystander "understandable" -- is a very lame one.

I thought that the only thing that the woman deliberately set on fire was the letter.
FYI...

Hmmm, let's see. I am on standby evac in Woodland Park and people have compassion for a lady who set this fire. Nope, sorry, not here. Even if the fire doesn't torch my home, I stand to lose probably $100-200K in equity in my house for years as do a lot of other people up here.

This lady can go to hell and I hope she gets charged with murder 1 for the lady that died on the second day of the fire.

has now indicted the husband as the likely source of her tragic downfall.

I'll bet he is Caucasian and he is a part of the Vast White Wing Conspiracy.

I don't know how much time you spend outdoors. I've lived in forest areas. I once saw someone almost set the Miles Standish Woods (Massachusetts) on fire by discarding a lit cigarette. We got into a truck and drove off without realizing what was done, and were a few hundred yards down the road when I happened to look back and saw smoke. By the time I banged on the cab wall, got the truck turned around, and went back to the site, it took all 5 of us to stomp out the flames and it was a near thing.

The "burning letter" story may not be true, and the evidence may show that, but absent any examination of evidence the story is certainly possible.

An accident is spilling your drink on the table and having it run off onto someones lap.

A mistake is buying diet coke instead of diet pepsi.

Igniting a fire is a purposful act.

"For one minute of anger or frustration, they are going to put her away for 30 years." said Wanitta Barton, Terry's mother-in-law in Squaw Valley, Calif. "It's just an unfortunate, unfortunate accident."

Well, if anyone dies she should be jailed for life.

Most firefighters who are fire starters have a history of doing so. I think they need to look at all of her "sucessful" attempts at putting out fires in previous years to see if she fits the mold.

Can someone please explain to me, how burning a letter in a fire ring can start a massive conflagration? We're talking 1, maybe 2 sheets of paper, right? Sounds fishy to me.

A woman in Teller County died last Monday due to smoke inhalation. The woman was a severe asthmatic and passed away while she was being transported to a hospital.

...'Not forgivable, but more understandable than somebody who just wanted to heat up some hot dogs or something.'

More understandable? Just throw the damn thing away! It's more understandable to be mellow dramatic than to eat? Give me a break.

Wasn't it her job to make sure people weren't starting camp fires in the first place?

***Reports that Barton was in distress - officials say the fire started after Barton burned a letter from her estranged husband - created some sympathy for her.***

***'It's almost a little more understandable,' Carol Simone said. 'Not forgivable, but more understandable than somebody who just wanted to heat up some hot dogs or something.'***

Actually, heating up hot dogs is more understandable to me than burning a letter. At least in the former case you are producing semi-edible food...

It's not my fault that you asked a dumb question.

Ah, Valerie. Obviously, the fire was deliberately set. I simply had not read the latest articles.

Once again, you are unable to carry on a discussion without the personal insult. Having a bad day?
