[history]
WASHINGTON -- An estimated 325,000 U.S. children age 17 or under are prostitutes, perform in pornographic videos or have otherwise fallen victim to "commercial sexual exploitation," University of Pennsylvania researchers reported today.
Their three-year, $400,000 study is based on research in 17 cities. The work includes interviews with 200 child victims, most already in the legal system, and more than 800 state, federal and local officials. Experts on juvenile law say it is the deepest investigation yet into the extent of the problem. There are 72 million children age 17 or under in the United States.

Notice how drugs play a part in this scenario. And there are people who want to legalize these things?

I saw this report last night. 325,000 seems incredibly high. What percentage of American children would that represent?
I'd love to see Ashcroft investigate this and start cracking down on Big Porn. Maybe we could even get Hillary, Waxman, Pelosi and the other "for the children" Democrats to join us in the crusade.

Like any liberal, CPS thugs need the illusion of heightened crisis to justify greater funding, power, and terror.
Hard truth #140. So-called "child protective" agencies collect Federal bounties for every child they remove and adopt out. Their primary agenda is the destruction of parental rights.

"There probably are no more than 1250-1500 active actors/actresses in legitimate porn in this country at any given time..." Two questions for you:
1) how do you know, and
2) what is "legitimate porn"
Thanks.

Give me $400,000 over 3 years and I'll tell you what you want to hear too.

This is pretty scarey, but I gotta tell ya: one-third of a million kids? I don't know. This sounds like typical "think-tank" propaganda, where you have a "study" commissioned to make such outrageous conclusions, by a group that has an agenda (in this case, perhaps more government intervention, etc.)
I'm not saying it isn't true, just that I can't accept something like this at face value.

Ok, let's say the numbers are inflated. I tend to concur, though I'm no expert.
How many children would it take for you guys to view this as a serious problem? 10,000? 20,000? 100,000?
Should Ashcroft and the DoJ go after Big Porn before it is totally mainstreamed?

Maybe we could even get Hillary, Waxman, Pelosi and the other "for the children" Democrats to join us in the crusade [cracking down on Big Porn]. Don't hold your breath. "Big Porn" in the guise of monstrosities like Larry Flynt are big contributors to the Democrat Party. They will protect the hand that feeds them.

What percentage of American children would that represent? I didn't review the details, but I heard the anchor on CNN summarize the report. (So, these might be typical "CNN" facts...)
They said, by way of summary, that the figures represent 1 out of every 100 children in the US. They also said that the figures show boys being _as_ victimized as girls.
I was struck by that last "fact." If it's true, it's a telling comment on the homosexual community. They'd be a fairly small minority of the population, abusing boys at a much higher rate -- per capita, so to speak -- to create stats comparable to straight exploitation.
But these kinds of reports are so easy to fudge and exploit that I have no idea how reliable the numbers or the interpretations are. (I'd imagine, too, that Red Nation/Blue Nation enters into this -- I'd imagine the numbers _must_ be worse in the big cities...) Mark W.

Give me $400,000 over 3 years and I'll tell you what you want to hear too.How much do you think collection of data for research should cost?
Or do you think that the work should be performed for free?
Or perhaps you think child pornography isn't a problem?
