PAKISTANI officials will arrive in Afghanistan today with an ultimatum for the Taleban: hand over Osama bin Laden within three days or risk a retaliatory attack from America and its allies. The officials are expected to meet Mullah Omar, the spiritual leader, in his headquarters in the southern city of Kandahar. Already he has described Pakistans support for the United States as a declaration of war against Afghanistan. He will be told that Americas allies have been mobilised to launch a military assault on Afghanistan if it continues to protect the man accused of co-ordinating the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
Yesterday bin Laden issued a statement, broadcast by Qatars al-Jazeera satellite channel, denying that he organised the attacks. I stress that I have not carried out this act, which appears to have been carried out by individuals with their own motivation, the statement said.
An e-mail, said to have been sent to Pakistani newspapers yesterday from the address osamabinlaadin@hotmail.com and purporting to come from bin Laden, called on Muslims around the world to kill Americans and to plunder their wealth. Its authenticity could not be confirmed.
The Red Cross pulled out its last 15 employees from Kabul yesterday after the Taleban refused to ensure their safety. It is the first time that the agency has evacuated its entire staff from the warravaged country. The Islamic regime ordered all foreigners to leave as it prepared to respond to a possible military strike.
Meanwhile, thousands of mourners yesterday attended the funeral of Ahmed Shah Masood in the Panjshir Valley, the last stronghold of the opposition to the Taleban in northern Afghanistan. He was buried in his home village of Vasarak. The opposition Northern Alliance has accused the Taleban and bin Laden of masterminding the attack on their leader by a suicide bomber.
Pakistans military regime has agreed to provide facilities for strikes on terrorist bases inside Afghanistan. Washington has also asked Pakistan to hand over all intelligence related to bin Laden and terrorist camps in Afghanistan.
Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistans military spy organisation, which has been involved in Afghanistan for decades, is believed to have the most comprehensive and accurate information. US authorities believe that the ISI has an effective network inside Afghanistan that can supply crucial information about key Taleban leaders and important installations.
The ISI, with the help of the CIA, led the biggest covert operation against Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s. The revival of co-operation between the ISI and the US secret services remains the most sensitive issue for Pakistan. Defence observers say that Pakistans co-operation with the CIA may provoke a severe reaction from the Taleban that could destabilise Pakistans border regions. The chief of the ISI, Lieutenant-General Mahmood Ahmed, seen as the No 2 to President Musharraf in Pakistans ruling authority, is said to have held talks in Washington.
The decision by General Musharraf to support the US has been endorsed by the senior military command, the National Security Council and the Cabinet. An official said that Pakistan would comply with the demands of the international community, but its troops would not participate in any operation outside the country.
Most political parties and religious leaders have criticised the military Government for succumbing to pressure from the US.

If this report is accurate, than I think it gives a pretty good estimate of when we can expect to see the first bombs fly. The Taliban will almost certainly tell Pakistan to get screwed. They (the Taliban) have shown no history of cooperation with any requests coming from the West. They have very little of substance to protect from bombing. They face an internal threat looking exploit any sign of weakness, and I imagine a good part of their funding comes from Bin Laden. I think they'll plan on digging a big hole and hiding in it until the bombs stop falling. The Afghan people have a pretty good record of repeling foreign invaders. If they can hold long enough to generate Arab sympathy, they may think they can gut this one out. I think they are wrong. But I also think this is going to get very complicated. I hope the American people have the spirit to persevere. That will determine our success or failure more than anything. But then again, who asked me.

First, I almost guarantee that the E-mail is a fake. It is old news that he has declared holy war against the US.
And the motivation of individual was brought on by him, by declaring Jihad. This is directly or indirectly HIS fault and I believe that he is directly involved. He is running scared, as he should be.
And the attack, wherever it comes from may or may not originate from Pakistan, I have my doubts, it is being talked about too much. Jr is using the press just as Sr. did, and more power to them. The press is gonna be SOOO pissed, and I love it!!
But yes, the clock is now ticking, the Taliban now needs to either put up, or shut up. If they will not hand over bin ladin, then they will be destroyed as a political and military entity. Then we will go in and get Bin Ladin ourselves. This is gonna get VERY interesting, VERY quickly. Wednesday is gonna be a BIG day!!

I think it's BAD news to capture and bring OBL back. we need to kill him on the spot quietly. Then Bush needs to announce the problem has been resolved with no further comment.

Probably threatened withdrawal of foriegn aid and also probably promised to help "encourage" India to leave Pakistan alone.

Fuel-air bombs are the way to go. Suck up all available oxygen, then explode and incinerate everything. Leaves no radioactive contaminants, fallout, all that nasty stuff. Just the burnt remains of, whatever had been there. The best part is that your target dies even if they're in a cave: oxygen deprivation.
