I saw that comment! Outstanding!! Thank GOD that we have "W" as our President. I can only shudder to think where we would be right now, had that moron algore been allowed to steal the election.

Although, his supporters (Bin Laden) will say Bush has slandered his mother.

He compared the old west wanted posters that said dead or alive to how he feels about Laden, he didn't declare nor demand dead or alive. Frankly, there is way too much wiggle room in such a statement.

I must say, though, I don't understand the ". . . or alive" part of this at all.

Quite a conjecture you made from what he actually said.

By memory;
"In the old west there used to be wanted posters that said Wanted-Dead or Alive. The American people want justice."

D.C. Reporter: President Gore, many in the millitary have urged the U.S. should send in troops to capture Bid Laden dead or alive. How do you feel about that?

Algore: Capturing people dead or alive is a risky scheme....

Echoes of TR...

The presidential phrase in 1904 was "Perdicaras alive, or Raisuli dead."

Check out "The Wind and the Lion" a mid- to late-70's film starring Sean Connery as Raisuli and Brian Keith(?) as TR. Great flick with lots of action, which also shows the marked difference between our society then and now. Back then, men were men and the US wasn't afraid to flex its (growing) muscles. Now (or at least until January), most men act like women, and we are afraid to even stand up for what is right, let alone fight for it.

Damn, all W needs now is a good mustache and some cheesy-looking eye glasses...

Pity The Wind and the Lion was historically correct only in the phrase of the US response, it was even less historically faithful than Lawrence of Arabia was to T.E. Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom or Revolt in the Desert (a shorter, slightly different version), either of which I recommend . Pedicaris was a man, we did sent warships, but did not land troops and attack anyone. We did not end up in a battle with the Germans or French. But Brian Kieth's TR was great!

Not two many ways to misinterpret that message.

President Bush says what he means and means what he says! Still another reason to celebrate his being President of the USA.

Wrong! TR did send a task force of some 100-300 marines to the "Shores of Tripoli" (Libya) led by Marine Lt. Presley O'Bannon if memory serves me. They marched across the desert from Egypt accompanied by a contigent of Egyptian nomads. They were successful in putting an end to the pirate activity (kidnapping/extortion) that had plagued the area known as the barbary Coast. The Mamalukes were so impressed they awarded Presley the Mamaluke sword which has been worn by Marine Officers ever since.
