Government Lands in the US

Government Lands in the US This map is designed to show the extent of government land ownership - federal, state, tribal and some county. However, the actual area of government ownership is greater than depicted, as there are additional millions of acres in publicly owned features, such as the federal and state highway systems, airports and county and municipal lands. Two notes of importance: 1) Areas depicted as state owned forests in Wisconsin reflect a large number of forest acres owned by counties, 2) Within some of the federal and state colored areas there are private land holdings. This is particularly true of the large state parks in New York. © 1995 by National Wilderness Institute. For a full resolution 18" x 26" poster of this map with source information please contact NWI. Individual posters are $7.50 plus shipping while our supply lasts. The poster is also included in the "This Land Is Whose Land?" issue of the NWI Resource. Contact us for details.

We always hear about how much land our Uncle owns, but it really sinks in once you look at it geographically.
