First Monday Anti Self-Defense(ASD) is at it again. October 1, 2001 - State by state listing
First Monday/Alliance for Justice ^ | 9-25-01 | Freedom Grabbers

October 1st 2001, kicks off year two

With a new film, new focus, new actions, and the same determination to make a difference.

ABOUT FIRST MONDAY

WHAT IS IT?

First Monday: Unite to End Gun Violence is a national organizing campaign dedicated to education and action to reduce gun violence. First Monday mobilizes students in colleges and at schools of law, medicine, nursing, social work and public health. Last year on October 2nd, more than 350 events occurred on college campuses and in communities nationwide.

This year, events will be held on campuses and in communities on October 1st and throughout the year to focus on the gun industry's practices and how it contributes to the epidemic of gun violence. This year, we are going to educate students on the gun issue and the role the industry plays in the death toll and injuries, enrage students over the deceptive practices of the gun industry, and empower students to demand that the industry tell the truth about their deadly products.

First Monday is an annual, national initiative coordinated by the Alliance for Justice in conjunction with Physicians for Social Responsibility.

WHY IS IT?

Every day, more than 80 people, approximately 23 of them between the ages of 20 and 30, die from gun violence in America. It's time to stop the epidemic. Your action, big or small, can make a difference

The Film

On October 1, 2001, Deadly Business by Glen Pearcy, will be shown at events all over the country. Deadly Business takes a new look at the issue of gun violence by turning the spotlight on the gun industry and highlighting its role in the epidemic of gun violence in America. The film explores the marketing practices of firearm manufacturers, the role of the gun lobby, the lack of safer product designs and more. Deadly Business also takes a revealing look at the parallels between the gun and tobacco industry's efforts to ensure their businesses remain unregulated. The film features Senator Richard Durbin, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, Common Cause President Scott Harshbarger and more.

For the 2000 campaign, First Monday produced a documentary film entitled "America: Up In Arms" featuring Martin Sheen and directed by Liz Garbus and Rory Kennedy. The film brings to light the public health costs of gun violence through the stories of three families who lost childen to gun violence. Click here to preview "America Up in Arms."

OUR NEW FOCUS!

This year, First Monday: Unite to End Gun Violence turns the spotlight on gun manufacturers and the gun lobby and demands that the gun industry take responsibility for its deadly product. First Monday will expose the methods the gun industry uses to ensure that guns remain the least regulated and most deadly consumer product sold in America. It took a massive grassroots movement and the threat of legal action to make big tobacco stand up and take responsibility for its deadly products. It's going to take the same type of grassroots activism to force the gun industry to do the same. That's what First Monday in 2001-2002 is all about.

GUN INDUSTRY WATCH

On First Monday 2001, the Alliance for Justice and Physicians for Social Responsibility will announce the formation of a new, grassroots student network, Gun Industry Watch (GIW). The on-line student network will keep tabs on the gun industry and gun lobby and highlight dishonest and dangerous practices surrounding the marketing, sales and distribution of guns. The Alliance for Justice and PSR will help keep students informed and active with regularly e-mailed newsletters and action agendas.

Ongoing Activities

In the coming months, Gun Industry Watch will keep pressure on the gun industry and gun lobby by:

Promoting a code of conduct for business practices of manufacturers and dealers.
Demanding an end to deceptive advertising.
Work for integrated safety locks on all weapons.
Support legislation in Congress to apply consumer product safety standards to firearms.
End use of Eddie Eagle and any mascots or cartoon characters that familiarize children with guns.

The Same Determination...

Last year, on October 2, 350 schools and communities across the country mobilized to say "enough already" to gun violence. That was only the beginning! Throughout the year, students rallied, tabled on campuses – garnering thousands of postcards supporting gun safety legislation, met with legislators, submitted editorials and more. This year, students and others concerned about gun violence will once again be raising their voices and taking action to reduce gun violence in this country.

There is the organizer's handbook which is their strategy

Last year, First Monday received a professional arse-kicking. However, I did have some good information from that meeting.

It looks like they are trying to ban guns through litigation, since they are getting the smackdown from legislation. I declared war on them last year, and they are now coming back for seconds.

BTW - if I didn't mention your state, guess what. They probably aren't even going to bother trying anything there. Also, many states have sponsors up, but no events. That means they are sticking their nose in other state business.

I think we can flat out outnumber the Anti-Self Defense Lobby at these events, and if nothing else, SCOUT THEM.

I also notice that most events are in places like California and Illinois. Why? My guess is these damn big money foundations. Andrew McKelvey is from California, and the Joyce Foundation is in Chicago.

They are coming to East Lansing again this year. Cooley and MSU(Cooley is in Lansing, MSU is East Lansing, they screwed up the city). Michigan Citizens for Handgun Control is pretty much a non-group. I've never even seen any even where they were at. Maybe someone from Birmingham knows. As for MPPGV, they are a creation of the Joyce Foundation and have a lot of financial backing, but little else. They are a threat through. K-zoo and Novi are the main MMM'er areas.

As for Ohio, everyone is fired up there with CCW in the horizon.

And then of course, there is Massachusetts, DC, and New York.

These people showed up at a memorial service for John Lennon. During the minute of silence they were the only ones that couldn't keep their mouths shut. After showing our respect for John my freinds and I stood up encircled them singing: Happiness Is A Warm Gun Bang Bang Shoot Shoot Happiness Is A Warm Gun Bang Bang Shoot Shoot When I Hold You In My Hand And Feel The Warmth Of Your Sweet triger........

Someone can commit a crime with a gun, and as a result the law exists now to disarm him because of his crime.

But they continue to try to disarm those who have not broken the law.

This is what gives away the neo-Bolsheviks' true motivations: Enable total "Big Brother" control on the part of an increasingly expanding tyrannical government.

The reason these people might just win is that they are active in the electoral process (propaganda), whereas those who would oppose them are not, for the most part.

We Freepers are active, of course; but we also need to spread the word and activate the rest of the "Joe SixPacks" of this country and get them off their recliners, or it's all going go to hell in a handbasket eventually.

Methinks their movement is losing ground at what I hope is (to them) an alarming rate.

Latest report from today's visit to the local firearms retailer:

There are gaps in the row of rifles and shotguns along the walls.

The manager reports that they're having trouble getting new stock from their wholesalers.

Have a nice day, Sara, Chuck and Josh!

It appears that there are a whole lot of folks who aren't buying into your lying rhetoric any more.

Time for America to do away with ALL laws that violate the 2nd amendment.

Text of the Second Amendment
"A well regulated Militia
being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Anyone who actually reads AND understands the 2nd Amendment
will see that there is no constitutional authority for any type of gun registration
and *there is no need for anyone to have to apply for a license to carry a gun.
*NOTE Vermont is the only state that understands this!
Any political party, politician, judge (etc), organization or individual who trys to convince you that:
1) you must register a firearm
2) you must pass a background check
3) you must wait (x) amount of days before you can get your firearm
4) you need to have a license to carry a gun
is either uneducated about OUR rights as citizens
OR is actively working to undermine OUR country.
How Did the Founders Understand the Second Amendment?

How the Brady Bill Passed (and subsequently - "Instant Check")
When the Brady Bill was passed into law on November 24, 1993,
the Senate voted on the Conference Report
and passed the Brady Bill by UNANIMOUS CONSENT.

NOT ONE SENATOR FROM EITHER PARTY VOTED AGAINST THIS.
