POST BOOMERS/PRE X - finally, a thread just for us - Thread 3

Posted on 10/02/2001 2:32:39 PM PDT by WIMom

Last night, there was an anti baby boom thread that started with a rant, and before some disruptor trashed it, some of us who were born at the tail end of the baby boom - from 1956 to 1964 - were having some nice recollections. The things that we seem to have in common are the following:

1. We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.

2. As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.

3. Old boomers came into adulthood at the ideal economic circumstance - we've had to work for ours.

4. Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.

So post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, etc.

And enjoy yourselves!

I'll get my husband to check these threads out later. He is a Post Boomer. I fall into Gen X (I think? '66). My earliest memory is Watergate interrupting my Saturday morning cartoons.

From #207 on Thread 2...

"That was the brother of the kid who's stomach blew up from drinking coke while eating pop rocks. LOL "

Hah! I totally remember both of those tales growing up in San Jose.

But I believe there's a basis in fact to the pop rocks story... Isn't Coke and pop rocks the only known way to dislodge the 8 year old swallowed chewing gum from your intestines?

Great idea! Thanks for starting these threads. I tried to check back in on the rant thread last night, only to discover it had vanished. As an "ancient" student, I have to go study for two exams I have back-to-back tomorrow (ugh), but I'll be back to catch up on these!

In case it hasn't been mentioned yet -- there was the girl who fell asleep with Bubble Yum in her mouth and it had spiders eggs in it. They hatched and she woke up with all these webs in her mouth, ha ha ha.
