Four youth were held by the New Delhi district police on charge of "gazing at the sun" at India gate on Wednesday afternoon.
The four of them were caught while staring at the sun without blinking. They intended to continue their act till sunset to get their names registered in the book of world records.
Dipeshwar along with his three friends had arrived in Delhi from Assam on Wednesday. All four reached at the India gate and were staring at the sun when a police patrolling gypsy reached there and started enquiring them. Dipeshwar explained the police their motives. The police objected to their activity and took them into custody. Later, all the four were released.

I have no idea if they would have made it into the record book for the longest gaze at the sun but they certainly deserve a page for most idiotic.

The 64-rupee question is, does Guinness publish in Braille?

I suppose that if you do this on the longest day of the year the best anyone can do is tie your record.

It would take about three seconds of staring into the sun to burn a hole in the retina and be blind for life. The fact that they were able to walk out of the police station without guide dogs would indicate they were faking it.

I can think of a more pleasurable way for these boys to go blind.

True. A person's position on the globe is as important in pursuit of this record as his raw stupidity.

Did they see a host? Glad I wasn't drinking coffee when I read that, I'm LMAO big time! I saw that looney-tune thread myself.

The real stupidity here is their thinking that they could hold onto a record like this. Now that the word is out, I'm sure there will be 1000's of government-school-educated American youths all over the country trying to outdo each other in topping their record.
