Concerned Women for America's helpful brochure, A Painful Choice, gives an excellent summary of the medical studies that show a strong correlation between breast cancer and abortion, and uncovers the poor methodology of particular studies with conflicting findings. This useful resource can be found on Concerned Women for America's Web site at cwfa.org/library/_brochures/

"Studies show there is a preventable cause of breast cancer -- abortion," said Wendy Wright, Director of Communications for Concerned Women for America. "This is positive news that women can lower their risk of getting breast cancer by avoiding having an abortion."

-- 18 out of 33 independent studies on abortion and breast cancer show a statistically significant increase in risk of breast cancer among women who have had one or more abortions.

-- A compilation of the findings of all 18 of these studies shows a 30-percent increase in risk for breast cancer for women who have had induced abortions.

-- Abortion increases risk of breast cancer by 50-percent according to a study headed by Dr. Janet Daling of the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center in Seattle, commissioned by the National Cancer Center.

-- A U.S. Court has already found the claim that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer credible.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to educate women on all the factors related to breast cancer. It is important that women be given the credible information showing that their chances of developing breast cancer are much greater if they have an abortion.

Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization
