Water valve key, maps stolen from EBMUD employee's car
CONTRA COSTA TIMES
RICHMOND, CA -- A motorized valve key to the East Bay's water pipes and reservoirs and five maps of the entire system were recently stolen from a worker's vehicle, causing alarm to residents and police already concerned about terrorism spreading to western states.
The burglary was reported to Richmond police Sunday after a supervisor noticed a lock to an underground storage facility had been cut or pried off.
He also saw that a large key unit and five maps had been stolen from a truck, parked for five days in the 5900 block of Amend Road.
The East Bay Municipal Utility District which serves 22 cities has been on high alert since the attacks on New York and the Pentagon with increased security and daily conversations with the FBI, said Charles Hardy, a district spokesman.
"Our water system is not in jeopardy," he said.
Police and the FBI are investigating the incident.
And that first case of Anthrax was a freak natural occurrence...
BAA aaaa aaaaaa aaaaa aaaaaaaa
Supermarket shelves with water are not empty but always a lot of it is sold.
I've seen people with carts full of bottled water.
I guess the rumors are strong enough that yesterday the Mayor of LA and water utility officials did a press conference on site to assure people.
This valve key thing - will that also work at other water utilities? Where are the infrastructure protection folks? Where are the darned guidelines, for that matter? They let that sort of stuff sit unguarded??
A well is nice; just make sure that they keep the electricity on!
That was the deciding factor in getting a backup generator. We were fed up with losing power for extended periods of time. Every time the power went down we were without water and (oil)heat, as well as the usual benefits of electricity. It's a great relief knowing we can last a little while "off-grid" if we must.

The system is not in jeopardy, the utility district is on high alert and a truck with the important key unit and maps in it was parked for 5 days and was broken in to. As well as a building.
What does high security mean anyway???
I think I will fly out to the east coast and get on a ship for a few days...
I forgot. I've got one of those. Guess I'm going to have to learn to use it, right after I take my shooting lessons.
Whatever you do--just don't take the Xanthrax.
