From "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" to the Doors' "The End," wars are often remembered by the songs they produce. If that rule holds for America's war on global terrorism, then an independently produced little ditty entitled "The Ballad of Mike Moran" may be with us for generations. Talk radio stations from coast to coast have been playing the song for two weeks now; a rousing choral effort memorializing Queens New York firefighter Mike Moran's taunt to Osama bin Laden to "Kiss my royal Irish a - -." Moran's brother John, also a firefighter, died in the Twin Tower collapse. At ...

Might be a good time to revisit how we all heard about the the attack on 9/11 and how we reacted to the darkest day in American history. What emotions were strongest for you on that day? How did you find out? Did you stay at work? Did you go Home? Who did you call?

At the CONCERT FOR NEW YORK, shortly after 911, fireman Mike Moran took the stage for an announcement. He lost his older brother, Batallion Commander and FReeper John Moran -- BCM. For the whole world to see and hear, he told Osama bin Laden to "kiss my royal Irish ass." This song was the inspiration for the song that has been played around the world. In the next few days you’ll hear a lot about the nearly 3,000 people killed on September 11, 2001. I’d like to tell you about just two of them, two people whose names I look for every time I see a list of the casualties. Let me tell you about Ted’s wife and Ryan and Dylan’s dad. Barbara Olson started out as a ballerina and ended up as a famous lawyer. She danced with the San Francisco Ballet and the Harkness Ballet in New York City, then moved on to Hollywood because working as an assistant producer would allow her...

GO HERE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD OF "THE BALLAD OF MIKE MORAN" (click on Lo-Fi or Hi-Fi) About "The Ballad of Mike Moran": After the events of September 11, 2001, we watched New York fireman, Mike Moran grab hold of the microphone on the night of the Paul McCartney/VH1 benefit in New York, we felt the outrage he expressed when he challenged Osama bin Laden to kiss his "royal Irish ass" and we felt had to do something to support that sentiment. At a time when the whole world was struggling to understand the meaning of these senseless and horrific...

The bone-chilling wail of bagpipe playing "Amazing Grace" echoed through a Queens church yesterday as yet another fallen firefighter from the World Trade Center tragedy was memorialized in death. It was yet another day — of many more to come — for Masses and memorial services for both heroic rescue workers and innocent civilians lost in the flames and collapsing towers. At the memorial Mass for 49th Battalion Chief John Moran, his younger brother, Firefighter Michael Moran of Ladder 3, recalled how he spoke to his brother by cell phone after the second plane crashed into the Trade Center. "I ...

John Moran was my son-inlaw. John truly was a Gentle Giant. He is terribly missed by us all! I was completely overwhelmed when I first discoverd this website and read all the postings on John's tribute.John and I shared conservative views (The Constition)which I thought was very unusual for a New Yorker. I'm an Idaho Redneck. I can't express what it meant to me when I read all the postings on John's tribute. It really choked me up! Thanks for all the expressions of condolences and encouragement. God Bless You All!BCM-FILI simply added FIL(father in-law)to his name.

Now showing on NBC (9pm East Coast time). Pretty good documentary about FDNY's Rescue 4 - Brooklyn. They interviewed Battalion Chief Moran about the Father's Day Fire that killed 3 firefighters last year. He later was killed on 9/11. He was a freeper and went by the name BCM.

One question, does anyone know if Freeper BCM (who perished in the WTC attacks) was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians?
-
Through IrishAbroad.com, I found a WTC tribute site. Please take the time to go add a tribute to John Moran who was known as FReeper BCM -- Battalion Chief Moran. WTC TRIBUTE PAGE From NY Times Oct 25 'Firefighter With Law Degree' John Moran was a Fire Department battalion chief and his cousin Joseph Crowley was a congressman. But when they united their voices that last Saturday afternoon, at the block party in the Rockaways -- well, "The Star of the County Down" never sounded sweeter. At 42, Chief Moran was a kayaking, tin- whistle-playing firefighter with a law degree....
