I live in Beaufort, which is about thirty miles to the southwest. Our 18th century house talked to us a lot, and we were without power, but we only got a little water in the street closest to the waterfront, and no serious damage.

Funny what a few miles can do. All you have to do is be on the west side of those things, and you are usually okay.

We have friends who rode it out on Cedar Island, which is just a bit northwest of where I think that photo was taken. They stook there and watched the water rise above their floor, which was more than eight feet agl.

Illinois put a very excellent basketball team on the court this year... either of those two teams obviously had an equal chance to win.

But the UNC team that played last night will probably ultimately be recognized as one of the finest college basketball teams to have ever played the game.

There are six, maybe seven, on that squar who will play in the NBA.

The '82 UNC championship team only had three... Worthy, Perkins... and yes, Jordan.

Musta gone to State, Huh??

I suppose that great sports contests have as much effect on the grand scheme of life as just about anything else we do.

But rather than dwell on that, why not recognize these wonderful kids who worked so hard to get to where they are...

And the fact that the two teams both come from wonderful college programs where the graduation rates are high, and the integrity of the recruiting is almost beyond reproach.

And the fact that millions saw and vicariously participated in what was clearly one of the finest NCAA tournaments in history.

Seems to me there's something of the grand scheme in all of that.

So go back to whatever it was that you were doing before you dropped in.

You're close, but Lake County (Leadville - KLXV) is generally considered to be the nation's highest , although with a slightly shorter runway. (9927'MSL, 6400' x 75' as opposed to 9078', 6870' x 100').

Both have instrument approaches, Leadville has an RNAV departure which is most interesting.

Telluride has an MDA of approx. 2500' AGL. The mountains to the west are up to 5,000' above field elevation.

For the uninitiated, those high elevations are more of a problem in the summer than in the winter (density altitude). On a hot day, some planes just won't get in the air there.
