The park service gave the same reason in December when West and relatives of soldiers tried to post ribbons for a soldier who was coming home on furlough.

Actually, I missed that one sentence in the article. OK, so I suppoooooose THIS woman *could* be legitimate.

But I know for absolute certain that the SAME kind of ribbons, posted on the SAME kinds of poles, all along the streets of my city, on practically the SAME day as this woman "was involved in posting 40 ribbons" (I wonder is that how many she PERSONALLY posted and how many were posted in all) - I know that HERE, it was, VERY CLEARLY, an ANTI-GEORGE-BUSH, "ANTI-WAR" political statement.

Somehow the coincidence still seems just a weeeee bit too much....

    AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGH.

Sorry to tell you, but you folks have been HAD -- ROYALLY.

There were dozens of these ribbons all along the streets where I live this past week.

Yeah, about the same time this "lady" put them up.

THEY ARE NOTHING BUT A POLITICAL STATEMENT, just as the Parks guy said.

These ribbons were put up in MY town by the so-called "anti-war" people. This was done in conjunctions with the "world-wide anti-war demonstrations" of this past weekend. And YES, they are absolutely a political statement (I think I said that already. Urg.)

If someone wants to welcome the troops home, or show their support for a loved one, they might well put a ribbon in their front yard -- but NOT ALL ALONG THE MAIN STREETS where EVERYBODY has to look at them, all the time.

And NOT the same weekend that such yellow ribbons were being used elsewhere to send a very clear political propaganda message.

A very effective message they made, too.

At the epicenter of the city there were two intersections that had signs posted, several signs at each intersection. Each sign said,

    Bring Them Home!

The very clear message: "Bush's war was a mistake. Bush lied, they died. Bring our troops home, NOW! Don't wait to clean up the Iraq mess. Don't consider the effects. BRING THEM HOME! And when it's time to vote for someone, pick Kerry, not Shrub!"

I personally ripped down the signs, and I ripped down dozens of ribbons, all of which were saying, in a loud and pervasive propaganda voice, "BRING THEM HOME!"

All conveniently bankrolled by our friend Kim Jong-Il and Communists, Islamists and liberals the world over.

Sorry, folks -- you've been HAD. Royally.

This parks guy needs our congratulations.

Carolyn Jarvis, director of the Michigan Partnership to End Gun Violence, said the law "hasn't created a huge problem of blood in the streets, but it's a terrible message for state government to be sending -- that guns are for shooting people."

    What a mind-numbingly idiotic statement.

The message, moron, is that criminals in Michigan are no longer going to receive free state assistance in their criminal activities, from a government that used to quite conveniently disarm their intended victims for them.

I tried to add Mein Kampf, but unfortunately I'm not registered at Amazon. Maybe someone else could add it.

I also was among those recommending Mein Kampf. Maybe they x'ed that one out?

Or, put another way, if Pronto Pup vendors were going to be shot, they would have been shot by now.

And if they had, we would undoubtedly already be hearing the statistic on the number of Pronto Pup vendors killed by guns every day.

Lesson learned long ago: No matter how silly and cheesy it may seem, psyops leaflets work! I always thought psyops was cool but I'm really starting to respect the hell out of that small branch of the armed forces... Probably responsible for taking nearly as many soldiers out of the fight as the combat arms guys, only we don't have to bury people when psyops is done with them.

Yes. They helped win the war and saved thousands and thousands of lives on both sides. And they did it by employing an almost uniquely American strategy -- telling the truth.

Teachers are obliged to spread untruths such as "sexual activity outside of marriage is likely to have harmful psychological and physical effects".

    Huh???

Sexual activity outside of marriage can easily lead to a breakdown of trust with the person you eventually marry, resulting in marital disharmony. I'd call that harmful psychological effects.

Sexual activity outside of marriage can lead to outright promiscuity. I'd say anyone who's promiscuous is not quite together mentally. Promiscuous young women tend to lose their self-respect. They're being treated as objects for the pleasure of others, so they start thinking of themselves that way. I'd call that harmful psychological effects.

Sexual activity outside of marriage can result in a very close emotional bond with someone you're only going to break up with, or who may break up with you quite casually. I'd call the resulting distress harmful psychological effects.

Sexual activity outside of marriage can result in disease and/ or pregnancy outside of wedlock, with all of the attending hardships and all of the attending harmful psychological effects. Not to mention future problems in relationships where a contagious venereal disease is an issue.

Sexual activity outside of marriage can lead to single parenthood. Raising a kid with two adult parents is hard enough. Single parenthood can also devastate what would otherwise be a bright future by destroying educational opportunity, future income, and future life situation by making that person less attractive as a potential marriage partner.

Young women who become pregnant outside of marriage can be pressured into abortions, with harmful psychological and physical effects. The harmful psychological effects of abortion can devastate young men, too -- who may have even less control over the situation than the young woman.

Need I go on? I've hardly even touched on the harmful physical effects such as venereal diseases, pregnancy before the body is mature enough to handle it, and side effects from abortion yet.

Just saying something is an "untruth" does not make it so.

My english is very poor, but that doesn't sound correct, at all.I am not saying it isn't. It just doesn't sound like it is right.

Here's my philosophy. Technically it's absolutely correct. English teachers and grammatical nitpickers will love you for saying it.

Everyone else will look at you like you're either stuck-up, a fool, or simply an oddity. Therefore, although it's technically correct, saying it this way will generally arouse so much confusion in your audience that your message will most likely be lost entirely.

Ergo, I consider the technically correct, in this case, to be functionally and pragmatically incorrect; it entirely destroys the communication of your message; therefore it is a grammatical construction to be avoided.

For what is the purpose of words, except to communicate?

Recently I was reading an article (can't remember where) on former child prodigies who are now adults. A large number of the ones profiled grew up resentful, rebellious and suffered from emotional and substance abuse problems.

If you find it, I'd like to track it down.

As an aside, I do recall the history of one of the most shining stars of my high school class. This guy was very, very bright, right up there at the very top, but not only was he bright, he was also really good looking, played football, and was popular. Guy had absolutely everything.

Never made it to college. Blew his mind out on drugs.
