First full disclosure, I am on the board of the CBC, who produced the documentary, and I helped Jennifer in some small way in getting this film off the ground. This is an incredibly important documentary that should be shown at every school, every church, every pro-life event in the country. Young women around the world are being used as test tubes, at great risk to their own health. Please, get a copy of this, watch it and show it to everyone you can lasso into a chair.

There were several “trustifarians” at Yale when I was there, including one who was a classic hippie girl in every sense except for having a nationally recognized name and being heir to a fortune. I don’t think her principles extended to donating her fortune rather than living off of it. A lot of it probably ended up with various far left organizations though.

I don’t know the details of the European priest sex scandal, but in the US well over 80% of the abuse was of post-pubescent adolescent boys. To put it bluntly, the problem was homosexuality in the priesthood. Assuming the problem is even remotely similar in Europe, I don’t think celibacy is the problem. And the experience in the US certainly proves that the Boy Scouts made the right decision.

The best series I know is the History of Philosophy series by Frederick Copleston, prepared for his Catholic seminary studies. Copleston was a staggerling well educated man, and didn’t fall into the post-modern relatistism or believe modern science and philsophy dictated that one must be an atheist. I was a philoshopy major at Yale some, ahem, many years ago, and I turn to his series wheneven I need to get a solid, thorough and unbiased refresher course, which happens fairly often since I can remember little of my college philosphy, and Derrida ruled the campus at the time anyway. The whole thing is worthwhile but vols 5 & 6 should do the trick for what you want

John is my congressman, and I’ve met him a couple of times, and heard him speak. I don’t agree with him on most matters, but he seems to be a straightshooter. In this case, however, he may have been a little too honest, Pelosi may be after him now that he has exposed their big secret.

they might have also checked the rate of unemployment against the huge mandated increase in the minimum wage. Unemployment among all groups affected by minimum wage rules, but especially black males and more generally all of the lower income, lower education 18-24 year old group, went up dramatically as a result of the increase. But, of course, any of us opposing such an increase were just evil right wing conservatives.

Um, no, I just wanted to correct the impression that lawyers have any such requirement, and to point out that the libs would never force one of their favored constituencies to provide anything for free or even limit their fees.

For many years, the Legal Services Corp has spent alot of its time and money on “social and economic justice” issues, filing class action suits and such. There was an effort made all the way back in the Reagan era to get the LSC to focus on, you know, actual cases for poor people—it went nowhere. I suspect they could easily handle every landlord tenant, insurance, tax dispute or other legitimate legal claim by actual poor US citizens for less then their current budget. (And, no, lawyers are not required to provide services for free to anyone, although many do-what, do you think one of the biggest donors to the Dembulbs would ever allow that kind of thing to go through?)

CBS says “These disclosures will probably not aid the political prospects of the Democrats’ cap and trade bill:

Um, no, I don’t this will help. More good work from the non-MSM who couldn’t be bothered to dig up this material. Looks like cap & trade is dead. Healthcare is near dead after the Baucus bill, which is being rejected already. Stimulus is, and the public believes it to be, a complete failure. The One has pretty much struck out on domestic policy. Now wonder the lefties are still just as shrill and angry as the use to be-The One doesn’t seem to be quite what they had hoped for.

On the off chance you may actually read some of the comments here, I note that you ought to have your facts straight before making idiotic accusations. No, not “every” President has made national speeches to children. When Bush 1 did so, he was attacked by the Democrats, who held Congressional hearings on the matter. And Bush did not include “materials” for the children that asked them to write about what they could do for him, like The One did. Obama didn’t ask our children what they could do for their community, their school, or their country, but for him. The ego and arrogance of that was what angered most of us. No wonder people like you can’t understand the anger in this country.

Oh, put you are right, we are worried that Obamacare will be Medicare for all - Medicare is trillions of dollars in the hole and will be bankrupt long before I am eligible for it. So, no, we don’t think that is a very good model. Nor is the UK or Canada model, where it can take years to get operations. I guess you don’t follow the international news much—didn’t happen to read about thousands of mothers who can’t get into maternity hospitals in time to have their babies. No, that is not quite what we have in mind for the US

  • Is global warming causing global cooling?

And these defenders of the “everything that happens is just more evidence for global warming” always ignore the real meaning of the recent cooling. The last decade of global cooling probably is too short to establish a trend, any more than the prior 30 or so years of slight warming did, despite all the hysteria. What the last decade of cooling DOES proove is that the computer models upon which the entire global warming argument is based don’t work, because not one of them came close to predicting the actual temperatures.

My wife called me a while ago to say that she had seen a CNN segment (she was at the airport, not at home!. She said she saw a segment in which CNN was asking for call in tips about protestors at town halls, more or less in the style of “we are asking anyone with information about these criminals to call our tip line to report them” She was stunned, it sounded like CNN was now getting into the Obama game of informing on anti-Obama dissent. Has anyone seen or heard anything about this?

But here is how you know this is the NYT spinning - they never quote the actual language that is supposed to be hateful. Instead, with all the talk about hate speech and racial epithets and the KKK, they simply leave the impression that the article contained vile and disgusting language. In fact, Steyn was his witty self, and, more importantly, the specific line that led the case, about Muslims breeding like mosquitos, was a quote from a European Muslim, not even Steyn’s own words. So this lawsuit is really about abusing the system to intimidate any critic of Islam, but the NYT conveniently leaves out all of that context. Surprised?

The one thing NPR could never address is that the ANC was a communist group and that SA now has a semi-socialist economic system with a massive and growing governmental sector that is deeply anti-free market. Could that possibly have anything to do with the problems? Nah, NPR wouldn’t even allow that as a option. Instead, though an entire generation has grown up and been educated under the new system, they have to blame the educational legacy of apartheid.
