You make the statement that there is an "Air Force officer in charge of the ground war." You must know something that I don't - just who is this Air Force officer that you are talking about?

  • Kerry says Special Forces Lt. Jim Rassmann fell out of boat

You are correct sir! Since PCF 94 was on the right hand side of the river, A starboard (right)turn (high speed or not) would have smashed them directly into the river bank. Besides, Rassman was on the starboard side of the boat and a high speed starboard turn would have thrown him inboard, not overboard.

Well the problem with just "adding" 20K or 30K to the end strength of the Army ignores how you are going to use these people. You must designate a warfighting force structure to which these people will be assigned. You must decide if they are to be Infantry battalions, supply companies, engineer battalions, or a mess kit repair company - this also requires equipment (trucks, guns, radios, etc.) and physical space (billets, supply rooms, motor pools, family housing) for these forces. The Army always has a priority list for more units to meet the warfighting strategy, but I'm not sure that that is what the Congress is doing. I think the Congress is just throwing an extra 30K bodies that the Army without the accompanying force structure, pay, operations and maintenance and construction dollars. If that is the case, then the Congress is just STUPID.

Must be something in the water here on FR. I have sent Sean about five e-mails over the past two weeks on the same topic - Enough with the tabloid nonsense or I'm gone. Haven't watched the show this week at all.

I've watched the show for years but it has gone way over the line on how much of this junk I can stand.

Now get my fix by watching Scarbourough and I wouldn't miss Brit Hume.

Another inaccuracy is the following statement: "As chief of staff, Shinseki presided over the Army's nine combat commands and served as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff." First of all, the Army doesn't have "Combat Commands." All "Combatant Commands" fall directly under SECDEF and identified as "CINCs (Commanders in Chiefs). As Army Chief of Staff, Shinseki presided over the Army in a management role - not command.

Someone earlier nailed it when they said that we don't want to deploy a larger combat force since we might need them for other contingencies and to maintain a rotation base for the currently deployed forces. We want other nations in their so that our forces can retrain, rearm, re-equip and hopefully get some down time.

You indicated that her husband was in the 489th Maintenance Company. I don't think that is correct. My research indicates that he is probably in the 489th Engineer Battalion (Combat) from the Army Reserve in Arkansas. The only 489th Maintenance Company in the Army Reserve is located in California. Any way, anybody in the Combat Engineer unit that is setting on his butt in a war zone is (1) Lying; (2) A dead beat (3) His unit sucks so bad that the next headquarters has them painting rocks so that they don't hurt themselves; (4) Really, Really, lying.

Trail before the ICC? You have to be kidding! They have been trying Slobo for a couple of years now and are no where near concluding the trail. Just think of these *ssholes shooting their mouths off for years and the clamoring of the ACLU types about their rights. Nope; they got Texas justice as far as I'm concerned. An earlier poster was also right when they said that the loonies would be capturing and holding anyone that they could for ransom for these two dirtbags. The only thing that I'm sorry about in not capturing them alive is that we couldn't have just dropped them off in the center of Bagdad and let the locals have at 'em.

The major "thing" that they have is the largest port in Europe - it's called Antwerp. If we have to move major amounts of equipment from our forces stationed in Germany, it goes through the port at Antwerp. We can move some small stuff down through Italy, but the big stuff won't fit through the railroad tunnels. We can still use Rotterdam (Netherlands), but it will be a major pain in the butt if we can't ship through Antwerp

"he urged his family and friends to "continue to struggle and fight against the death penalty as its only use has been for revenge and it does not deter crime" It sure is going to deter his sorry butt from committing another crime.

"(unlike, say that multi-million dollar Army weapon system developed under the Reagan -- the name of which I cannot recall right now -- that did NOT work, and was therefore cancelled)."

Ah! I believe that you are referring the (in)famous Sergeant York Air Defense System (or DIVAD gun.) That was the one that shot up a latrine on the firing range. In regards to your thought about why not keep Crusader in a scaled back form? One reason is all the specialized MOS's, force structure, logistics, etc for just that one weapons system, which (may) be useable in case we are invaded from Canada or Mexico. You may want to spend a whole lotta bucks on something like that, but believe me, the Army could not afford the dollars, or the force structure to keep something on such a lark.

If you want to sell your house can you put up a "For Sale" sign? What about a sign by a Real Estate company? If those are allowed, then they don't have a leg to stand on with a political sign.
