I am a engineer (RF) and I have a 12kw gen in my shed about 50 ft from the house. I have one dual 40amp breaker in the shed along with direct burial #6 three conductor copper running to the house where I have another 40amp dual breaker outside. When the power does out I simply turn off the main panel switch go outside turn off the outside breaker and head for the shed. I have a dryer plug to plug in and start it up. I can then power up the shed (lights) and turn on the outside breaker and I have full power. BTW the shed is also a Faraday cage. I embedded a screen in the entire structure walls, ceiling, door, etc. It provides about 35-40db of intinuation . It is real quiet in there. No transfer switch.

I am a bit conflicted on this. Both as a amateur and a commercial radio provider. I currently have a two repeater system on a tv tower in a major city. I pay $1200 per month rent. I recently noticed a couple of new stations installed at the site. I inquired as to who they were and found out they were amateur systems. How much do they pay? $0. Their equipment takes up three times as much floor space as mine does.

In all my years here I have yet to notice anyone from a amateur club at a scene of some disaster. In fact the major Hospital in the area took out all the systems that some club had installed, and the unknown repeater they had installed on the roof.

I have monitored the repeaters and the only thing I hear related to “PUBLIC SAFETY” is to avoid areas where there is some incident that ties up traffic.

After the club found out who I was they asked me to hook up some interface to their repeater. They didn’t know anything about the repeater even with the tech book on it.

They didn’t have any knowledge of electronics, they were just appliance operators.

I respect the General & Extra class licenses but have little for the Technician class 2 meter and 70cm repeaters.

Have a good friend who works for SEMCO and knows what happened. SEMCO is in the distribution business, they do not generate any power.

A 203kv line from PEPCO came into one of their substations and actually melted one of it’s insulators. The line fell and hit one of the circuit breakers.

It really doesn't matter what the bill says about illegals treatment.

As long as the Federal Emergency Room Treatment Law remains in place illegals will continue to use the ERs at will. They even get special consideration when dropping their babies.

Don't pay much attention to this. Falls Church & this paper is a Democrat bastion.

You can't even run for office in FC unless you are “approved” by a board setup to be sure you are the “right type”

I don't think the paper has any paid subscribers, they just trash up everyone’s yards once a week with it.

In Virginia, Dominion Power just filed for a rate DECREASE with the Corporation Commission. I think it is only a few percent. They attributed it to decrease in Gas and coal prices.

Friend of mine living in a rural area, recently had a visit from a census worker with a GPS. He asked her if she worked for ACORN. She said no but said she had been asked that a lot.

She was real interested in a couple of out buildings he had. I would guess to see if there were illegals living there to count.

Was talking to him yesterday, and he said he had decided that when they came for the count, if the worker was with ACORN, he would refuse to give info.

That sounds like a good movement for FR to start.

The State Supreme Court decision in 2004 resulted in a State regulation that the counties “may” adopt. It virtually took away the variance process for existing homes.

However, it was a big giveaway to developers because it allowed them to build in greater density than the zoning for that area allowed, without going for a variance. In essence it allowed the developer to build the McMansions, but prevented the old home next door from competing.

In my neighborhood, a developer was allowed to build 13 MM when zoning R3,should have only allowed 9, with no variance.
It also allowed smaller lot size, 30% smaller setbacks.

This whole thing was not about variances, but rather about giving developers right to build without having to deal with those pesky variances, and preventing competition from existing homeowners.

My mother was in a nursing home for two major election cycles, 2000 and 2004.

A staff member would come around and fill out a request for absentee ballot. The ballot would come in, and a staff member would come around looking for the ballot to “help the resident” fill it out.

I was able to get it for both cycles before they did. A private nurse we had hired told me that the staff worker was very upset that I had it and looked all over the room to see if I had left it there.

I also noticed that most of the staff cars had Dem bumper stickers on them.

I think when it is all said and done you will find out that just about the whole industry was in on this.

I live about 20 miles from Woodbridge just inside the Beltway in Fairfax County. In my neighborhood, within 2 blocks of where I live there are four houses in repo.

I looked up the sales history and was stunned to find that they were all flipped to Latinos for 150-200k above market. The new owners stayed 3-6 mos, and were repoed.

I went outside my neighborhood a few miles and found the same thing. I even found one case where it looked like the lender made the real estate agent buy it back and resell it to them at below market after the Latino defaulted.

Since the FBI has brought in the Postal Inspection Service, I would say they are completely overloaded. A mail fraud conviction is easy and usually quick.

I have also noticed that some lenders are having fire sales and selling at around 2002 prices with about a 200k loss.

A few years ago I was at a customers office waiting to talk to the owner. They employed a number of inner city (Washington DC)young black women as call takers in the next room. Many of the women were former welfare, and drug program people.

They were on break and discussing a new employee who had said she wanted to have a baby. They all (6) decided she should because that way “she would have someone who would love her forever”

I fear the devil will be in the details.

If employers are allowed to hire “guest workers” without providing health insurance they will continue to suck off our health care system. If they are allowed to bring family with out it I shudder to think how much my premiums will go up to cover the losses.

Next, I can see a real scam forming. Employers will bring them in as GW perhaps at $7.25p/h and rent them out at a higher rate.

Don’t forget paid private primary & secondary education, a month vacation p/y with travel paid back to the home country for the whole family.

Many of them also get to bring in a slave from the home country as a nanny/housekeeper for $200.00 p/m

My neighbor works for them. He paid 200k over market for his house. Really screwed up values and taxes on our block.

I wish Wolfowitz would list all the benefits the WB employees get. Having lived in the D.C. area most of my life, I have known about a dozen. About half are US citizens and the rest foreign nationals.

Next to an outstanding TAX FREE PAY rate. Free medical, free private education for kids, one month per year vacation with travel paid to home country for entire family. They hold a Diplomatic Passport and are allowed to bring in a slave to do their house work. Party all the time.

One, a US citizen moved in next door and paid 200K over market for the house. Last year they held a big Webb party.

VA is a “right to carry” State. State colleges, which Va TECH is, the campus cops are authorized to carry loaded weapons and have the same authority as State Police when on campus.
