Hi Stephen: I'm finally coming to life again after a year and a half. I hit my first bucket of golf balls today and went to a dance at the American Leigon last night.

Last week I went to our family reunion in Ohio. The weather was perfect and it went great. 34 showed up.

If your having trouble seeing me it's because I've lost 68 pounds. Lol

Did you ever move from your place in CO?

Are you still a Jew? Is it what you thought it'd be? Do you support Israel in the war? I'm shocked that some do not.

I can't believe it, the last post was made on 5/15/06, almost three months ago. And I felt like I was dead for a while.:-)
This thread is so rusty and old it probably won't even work, let me see-------grunt--squeek---groan---clunk--

Then why were they following THAT star?

The only explanation must be that God chose to reveal it to these magi Astrologers rather then to those who wouldn’t believe or accept the Savior.

You're missing something. Go back and read your previous post. You said they didn't know except with 'hindsight' (paraphrased) and brought up the 'wise men'. I merely pointed out that the wise men were magi/astrologers and forbidden by YHWH. ;)

But you forgot to point out that they didn't know the Messiah was born until after the fact, some 3 months later, so they weren't prophesying, they were reading history which the Jews of the day hadn't done.

YHWH forbid the interpretation of signs for this sort of predictive purpose. It would have been divination to interpret the appearance of stars as omens of extraordinary events, births of royalty, or even messiahs. Yet, we are to do that which YHWH forbids???

I’m not sure of where your going with this? First you asked me why John didn’t know that Jesus would rise again, and I made the point we seldom know Gods plans until after the fact. Then you point out Duet.18:9-12 that God forbade his people to interpret etc.

It seems to me you answered your own question as to why John didn’t understand the prophesies made by Jesus, or am I missing something?

There were different schools of thought back then and if I recall correctly, the Alexandrian Jews are the ones that made the Septuagint. Hebrew Rabbis only translated the first 5 books, the Pentateuch

    I’ve read the same thing.

Jhn 20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
How do you explain them not having any knowledge of this, considering that the Hebrews were very scrupulous with the passing on of scripture orally, before it was written down? Seems to me that IF that prophecy had been in there, they would have known about it. But, they didn't. ???

They couldn’t figure out that he was the Messiah, let alone that if they crucified him He would be resurrected in three days and three nights.

Jesus told the religious leaders of the time and His own disciples that the temple would be torn down and not one stone would be left standing on another and none of them comprehended what he was saying until after 70AD.

Much of scripture is written in a way that it’s not seen or understood until after the fact, then they slap their heads and say, why didn’t I see that before?

If Satan had understood that by Jesus death and resurrection this would create the Christian New Testament church and offer salvation to mankind by simply believing on the Son of God, he would have never allowed the crucifixion.

It took the wise men from the east, non Jews to inform king Herod that the King of the Jews was born, and until then he didn’t have a clue, then the chief priests and scribes were able to find it in the scriptures after the fact. Mt 2:1-6, Micah 5:2, Gen 49:10, Jer 23:5-6.

    Redneck Nativity Scene

An Outsider in a small Texas town around Christmas time, saw a "Nativity Scene" that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. But one small feature was all wrong: the three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets

Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, he left. At a "Quik Stop" on the edge of town, he asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets.
She exploded into a rage, yelling, "You darn Yankees never read your Bibles!"
The Outsider assured her that he did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible.
She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and riffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in the guys face she said, "See, it says right here, 'The three wise men came from afar.'"

I agree, those children are beautiful. If the looks of a mans children determined whether or not he was right or wrong, you'd be the rightest guy on these threads. Hahaha

Yes, daqar {daw-kar'} from Zechariah 12:10 is the word they would have used if they meant 'pierced' in psalm 22:16. Obviosuly it wasn't what they meant since they used a word that is always translated as 'lion' EXCEPT oddly, for that one, lone, single, verse.

    From the Hebrew
kiy sebhâbhuniykelâbhiym `adhath merê`iym hiqqiyphuniy kâ'ariy yâdhay veraghlây

    from the Hebrew
738 'ariy ar-ee' or (prolonged) earyeh {ar-yay'}; (in the sense of violence); a lion:--(young) lion, + pierce (from the margin).
    1) lion
    a) pictures or images of lions

    daqar
    1) to pierce, thrust through, pierce through
    a) (Qal) to pierce, run through
    b) (Niphal) to be pierced through
    c) (Pual) pierced, riddled (participle)

    Two very different words. ;)

ET, I don’t doubt your sincerity on this matter, but I am just as sincere in my belief on the matter. You sincerely believe that the early Church did a little slight of hand in order to make a prophesy fit the crucifixion of Jesus. I’ve read enough of the history of the early Church to agree they made a lot of mistakes, and some were calculated, but this in not one of them. The Apostle John under inspiration of Gods Holy Spirit read the Old Testament the same way we do today, he understood the prophesies were about Jesus being pierced, and that’s how he wrote it in Greek. John 19:37, and then in Revelations 1:7. These are the same Strong Number 3572, meaning pierced.

Since John had no access to a Greek Bible, and no possible way to change a word from the Hebrew Scriptures without being condemned by all the Jews who made up the early church, he must have taken the prophesies from the Hebrew text that were in use at the time.

Do I believe the Hebrew scholars of that time after Christ changed the Holy writings? No, not intentionally, but as firmly as they believed that Jesus was not the Mesiah, when they came on a word that could possibly go either way, and there were so many side notes and comments on it that it was in question, it would be only natural for them to see exactly what they believed in their hearts.

This comes from your own Jewish writings.

    Tikkune Soferin

Prior to the year 400BC, the only Hebrew canon of books Israel had, was the four books of the Torah. While in captivity in Egypt, the king of Alexandria Egypt, Ptolemy Philadelphia decided to finance the Hebrews in translating, and canonizing the Hebrew books into Greek, since Hebrew was becoming a lost language to the average Hebrew.

When the Septuagint was completed, it was the first time the Hebrew writings had been canonized and it was all because of a Gentile king.

There was no such person as Jesus Christ, nor would there be for another 300 years, so the Hebrew scholars had no preconceived beliefs they had to allow for in their translations.

By the end of the first century, 70 years after Christianity began, there were many differing renditions of Hebrew scripture around, and it was for that reason a group called the Messorites took it upon themselves to develop and standardize the Hebrew text, and they called it the Hebrew: Massorah- “Tradition “ Text.

Any changes from the older text came about at this time. The original manuscripts were the only true copies of what was actually said. All others were interpreted by men who had agendas, and a different understanding of what was scribed.

Druing this time there were guidelines set up for those who were translating, and one of the terms used was, “TIKKUNE SOFERIN,”which came to be around the year 200AD, and it gave the translators authority to change any scripture in order to “Safeguard the unity of divine worship at Jerusalem.”

It was no doubt when the differences began between the Massoretic text, and the Septuagint, remembering that the Hebrews that translated the older Hebrew text into Greek, had no religious ax to grind, or fulfilled prophesies of the Messiah they had to work around.

With the authority to change and make it all fit into their belief system, the writings, except the first four books, became their Old Testament commentary, to support their belief.

I will no longer argue beliefs with anyone, but I will give a serious answer as to what I believe.

Was Ginny sick before she had pneumonia? I'm just curious, since our neighbor was put on prednisone for gout of his big toe? Most of what I have read about prednisone is bad and I just can't understand why they would use it for gout. In fact, I looked around online and didn't see any reference to using it for treating gout. Do you happen to know if that is a legitimate use for it?

My sister in law lost her husband just over a year ago. He was in his late 50's/early 60's. Sometimes its hard to understand why.

Hi ET. Ginny never had pneumonia, her Wegnere’s started out as a cold of flu, then they thought it was a sinus infection, then sinusitus, then acute sinusitis, then they had an MRI done and found her nasal passages were full of blood. That’s when I took her to ER, and after a week they diagnosed it as Wegnere’s Granulomatosis.

They put her on Cytoxan when they found the disease in her lungs, it’s Kemo Therapy like they use on Cancer patients. The problem is that Cytoxan makes the patient lose weight so they counter it with Prednisone to put weight back on. Body builders use it to give them muscle mass, but Ginny had a strong adverse reaction to it but the Doctors thought she had gone directly into dementia. Finally one of the older nurses took me aside and said she had been watching Ginny, and she was convinced she was not suffering from dementia, but from the Prednisone reaction. She said her husband had been on it for a week and they thought he had gone completely insane. It took over a month after they took him off of it before the side effects wore off.

No, I have never heard of it being used for gout. My Step Father gets gout at times but all he does is start eating caned cherries, like the kind they use for pie filling, and it always goes away. ????

They had better keep an eye on him and if he starts acting strange, they had better start backing the dosage down and get him off of it asap.

Are you sure they didn’t say Cortisone, and not Prednizone?

Hi JH. Hope all is well with you.

Hi ET, thank you, I've survived for over 9 months now as a half man, and I'm still waiting to see why God has left me here when I never expected to see 50 years of age. My mother died when she was 47, my father at 50, and my Grandfather around 50 also. Ginny's Mother and Aunts and Father lived into their 90's.

I never thought I'd be around without her. ;-(

You know what? We have heaters in our houses and automobiles.

Wow! You've come a long way since we last talked. L0l

Actually, I couldn't stand it if we didn't have heaters. It kinda makes me think how it is in "Paradise" - AKA "Preview To Hell" without air conditioners.

    I read a couple of weeks ago that the equivalent of the population of Pennsylvania moves down here every year. I guess Pa doesn't have heaters in their cars like you New Englanders. {{{{grin}}}}

BTW, I think you are older than I am.

I turned 69 last Sep. If I remember correctly, you're a couple of years older.

We had about a 65 - 70 mph wind come in from the south and went into the front opening of the barn, tore off the 2 end stalls first and then about 30 mins later it caught the roof of the other 4 stalls and off they went.

So this site is still alive, huh?

Mack, does this mean you had to bring Dad inside for the winter?

To get the full effect, this should be read aloud. You will understand what 'tenjewberrymuds' means by the end of the conversation. This has been nominated for the best email of 2005.
The following is a telephone exchange between a hotel guest and room-service, at a hotel in Asia, which was recorded and published in the Far East Economic Review:

Not much.. I called our city manager about sponsering a family. I got brushed off. Tomorrow I'm making a donation to the Salvation Army and I may try to drop some stuff off in Houston this weekend. We have surveyors in my hospital and I've been working 12-14 hr days so I'm behind schedule. I see that the "O" one thinking about jumping across. Is that near you?

The Salvation Army was both Ginny and my favorite charity because they serve both the physical and spiritual needs of those they help.

Hurricane Ophelia can't seem to make up her mind where she wants to go. I wouldn't be surprised if she circles around and comes back through central Florida.

While some are playing the blame game, I wonder if certain questions will ever be asked or answered.

Out of approximately 100,000 people who stayed through the hurricane in New Orleans, -------

How many did so because they were alcoholics and didn’t want to lose their ability to stay sopped?

How many were druggies and didn’t want to lose the ability to shoot up and get High?

How many smokers knew they wouldn’t be free to smoke in the shelters?

How many wanted to stay and loot all the stores, and their neighbor’s home?

How many thought it would be one long party with no one there to bother them?

How many had animals that their safety made the final decision to stay?

    How many were simply ignorant?

What kind of a mother or father, with little children would decide to stay?

How many cars did they own, that had enough gas to have driven north out of harms way until they could see what was to come?

If the mayor had decided to physically make everyone leave, how many shootings would there have been, and how many people would they have actually been able to move out?

What if their making the people leave became a disaster, and many were killed along with policemen, and at the last moment Katrina veered off and nothing happened to New Orleans?
