They don't have the guts to attack a soldier directly. It's always civvies or sniper attacks.

As opposed to... killing a soldier from 30,000 feet in the air, or launching a cruise missile from 100+ miles away? Careful, or you'll end up insulting our own armed forces as well.

    Interesting post, thanks for sharing.

Personally, I say teach science in science class, and religion in religious classes. Evolution and Creationism (and ID for that matter) aren't like a peanut butter/chocolate combination that go together at all... "You got your Creationism in my science class!"... "You got your Evolution in my bible studies!"... they just don't belong in each other's educational framework.

    Interesting comments by all.

I have a counter-argument, however. Mind you, I don't know this woman at all (none of us do), but it is still a reasonable point.
What if she *sucks* at finding a guy who is good husband material, but has enough self-esteem to reject the losers she meets who are not? I know of far too many women who can't tell the difference, and married the first jerk to cross their paths, and have kids with those jerks. Are you all supposing that a woman who knows enough to not get involved with a jerk wouldn't be a good mother?
I'd personally rather see a single mother (who knows enough to avoid getting involved with a jerk of a guy) raise a child than a mother who is willing to have and raise children with a man who is an abusive jerk.

    Ever heard of this one?....
the right of the people to peaceably assemble
    LVM

As a teen, I drove to and watched plenty of drag races. At *no* time did I think that me being there watching was legal. I knew that even watching an illegal drag race was illegal as heck. It's like a group of people gathering around a building that everyone knows is going to be set on fire by some arsonist... their very being there eggs the criminal on in tacit approval.
I very much support legal racing venues that are controlled by responsible people and allow anyone off the street to race, pending basic safety checks (legal cars, 5 point harnesses, nothing very special required). Heck, I would have easily paid $10 to watch any of the street races that I attended. Well, as long as the cute girls would be there as well... but that's another thread.

Now that more pieces of the puzzle are being put together, Middle East Terrorist cannot be ruled out since men of dark complexion were seen what authorities believe may be the get-away car. With all the al Qaeda Terrorism that's being carried out all over the world, the possibilities of the snipers being al Qaeda Terrorists seems to be more likely than not. What do you think?

There were several reports of a "fat guy with sideburns" shopping at a local drug store, so I don't believe that we can rule out Elvis as the shooter, either. Oh wait, you said "men of dark complexion" were seen around one of the 2 completely different types of vans believed to be used by the shooter... where was Jessie Jackson during the shootings? He "more likely than not" has dark skin, so he MUST be guilty.

IOW, use logic to determine your conclusion, instead of using your conclusion to determine your logic.

    GOD !! I Hate Liberals.

Seeing that Africa has the highest rate of children *born* with AIDS in the world (and this fact is the whole reason for the proposed new puppet), are you suggesting that these children should be taught to be ashamed of the fact that they were born?

I actually made no statements as to my own personal religious beliefs; don't be so quick to judge (as you assume I am athiest, which I am not). I stated that if someone has no religious belief system, I don't see that as a disqualification for the right to live in the USA.

What you call religious belief, I call morality. I fully believe that one can live a moral life without religious beliefs, just as one can live an immoral life with religious beliefs (as well as immoral/without and moral/with).

You see, I value people based on their actions, not their beliefs.

And let me tell you something. Atheists aren't about protecting their rights. They are about taking AWAY the rights of Christians... They aren't suing because they were forced to pray, as they could have bowed their head and sat silently.

I agree that Newdow is an attention-monger, no doubt about that. I am not an athiest, but I *do* support the separation of church and state. Why? Because there are many people who don't believe the same religion, and to support one religion, the state must, in all fairness, support *ALL* religions, including those who believe in no religion. That would just be insane to have state sponsorship of every flavor of religion that exists.

All people who I've spoken with who support the "under God" inclusion believe in a Judeo-Christian God. When I ask them what they would think if the pledge said "under Allah" instead, every one of them said they'd be outraged. So for most folks, state sponshorship is OK only as long as it is "their" God that is sponsored. This is wrong, IMO.

A belief in the seperation of church and state is NOT about taking away rights from any religious group. It is about making sure that NO religion is supported by the state, and thus none are discriminated against by exclusion. I'm sure you'd agree if your religion was one of those excluded. If one's belief in their own religion is threatened because the state doesn't sponsor that belief (or any other religious group), then I would question that person's faith to begin with.

As a result of the tariffs, steelmakers are renegotiating contracts...
Sounds like the union steel plants want to hold everyone up for more money.

You nailed it. Tariffs are used to increase the *demand* for domestic products, so the production increases, thus keeping more domestic folks in their jobs, maintaining production capacity, all that good stuff.
In this case, the renegotiated contracts will lower the demand increase the tariff is supposed to create, and *only* serve to line the pockets of the domestic companies who are protected by the tariff. And as others have stated before, WE are the ones paying not only for those tariffs, but for the increased cash the domestic manufacturers are "renegotiationg".

Talk about trying to help an industry out and they end up just trying to line their own pockets...

Why would a man be interested in marrying and supporting a woman who gives it up for nothing.?

    I'll bite.
Perhaps the man is a decent guy or has a sense of responsibility? Or perhaps he *gasp* loves the woman? I know, what concepts.

We also have the gold sellers in our malls not listed as Intrique but ran by middle easterners. I was looking at the jewelry in one a week or so ago and the clerk was so overly friendly he gave me the creeps at the time.
I was a little shaken by him, but just put it off to my own "profiling", but now I am convinced that my bad feelings were justified.

Good thing I chose to be born a "gringo" in the US, and not a middle eastern person. Folks would think I'm a terrorist just because I'm a nice guy.

This nation is "under God". If you disagree with that you should be honest and get out of this country and take your seed with you.

So only folks who believe in a God are allowed in this country? That's a new one on me. I thought that kind of thinking was limited to countries ruled by fundamentalist Islamic governments. *shrug*

    >...there is an expectation that we will be paid for our software and services"

I seem to recall PG&E saying that about the electricity and services they provided.

LOL! You Miiiiight want to look into their books a little bit and learn the difference between PG&E "The Distribution Company", and PG&E "The Corporation". Hint: One purchases and distributes electricity, and the other takes all profits immediately from the afore mentioned business entity, and leaves little float.
PG&E is not the victim you make them out to be, unless they're a victim of record profits during the "California Energy Crisis"(TM*).

I used to live in that stink-hole. What a colossal pile of filth that town is. Nothing but bums and drunks and lesbians everywhere. Everybody is dirty, unkempt and stupid. I hate that place with everything in me, the best punishment for the vermin there is to let them fester in their own filth. Too bad the Loma Prieta earthquake didn't knock over the rest of that town when it had the chance. Nothing but a bunch of lying, theiving Bolshevik bastards live there, and now it's also a third world pit at well. I am so, so very glad to be out of CaliThirdWorld.

I'm a little confused here. This thread started with a story about people stepping over a dying man, and how terrible that lack of compassion was. Then some folks on this board said that that lack of compassion is a product of the "3rd world mentality", and that the 3rd world folks are to blame for the callous act of ignoring a dying person. Now *you* are saying that the same act of not caring about a dying person is *justified* by "non-3rd world people" because someone lying on the ground needs to be punished because they are presumed by you to have born in a 3rd world country?

Aren't you thinking exactly like those folks who you just described and despise?

It all comes down to TRAINING.

I sure as heck don't want a weapon that can harm passengers and penetrate the skin of the aircraft if shot inappropriately to be in the hands of a pilot untrained in it's proper useage. I'll give that same weapon to a pilot trained in proper weapon useage anyday.

It all comes down to decent weapon training. Train the pilots and test them on weapon useage. If they pass, arm them. If they fail, then re-train them but surely don't arm them if they cannot use a firearm reasonably.
