  • Students try 'Archie Bunker's Neighborhood': a taste of discrimination in the real world

This PC crap is getting so bad it's becoming self-parodizing. Which is good, I think it teaches students just how insane and disconnected from reality these communist idiots are. The quotes from the students who witnessed this event are certainly encouraging.

I wasn't particularly conservative until college, when I had this kind of leftist BS shoved down my throat. I probably wouldn't have the disdain for political correctness and liberal views that I do if I didn't witness firsthand just how ridiculous these people can be.

Ahh, the 3.8 was a real turd. And Ford shat in their own bed with all the lies they told about it.

A former Lincoln-Marcury service manager told me that Ford has no idea why that engine had all the head gasket problems, but they started using an improved gasket that's just good enough to get through the warranty. Definitely an engine to avoid. I can't believe they're still using that piece of crap!

My mom is very liberal as well. It got much worse after she befriended a bunch of socialist college professors (a redundancy, I know).

Whenever she tells me about the war protest she attended or how some evil conservative is going to destroy America, I just try my best to ignore it and not get pissed off. I've learned to not even bother arguing with her. Making logical, factual, rational points against someone who makes "arguments" based upon moral/cultural relativism and emotions is like arguing with a brick wall. When I try, she either says nothing and abruptly changes the subject, or calls me a "bigoted arch-conservative redneck" or similar.

She really helped to shape my political views. Once I began critically thinking about and debunking her views (when I was around 10 years old), it really opened my eyes.

Creative Accounting: Busses don't get "miles per gallon," they get "passenger miles per gallon." They claim that if 50 people are on board (Full capacity) and it gets 2 mpg, then they get 100 PMPG.

Cool! So an 8-passenger SUV that gets 12 mpg gets 96 PMPG, which is about the same as a 2-seater gas/electric Honda Insight.

It's fun to use the liberals' bastardization of logic against them. :)

The tv stations all rejected it. But the courts forced them to carry it. How much we've changed as a nation. NOw, a different point of view that strikes a nerve is just shut down.

The TV stations in question are private businesses. They can choose to air whatever they want. The courts were wrong by forcing them to air those commercials back in the 70s.

If Arrianna et al want to freely spew their BS, they can start their own network and say anything they please. But they can't force others to advocate their views.

I wonder how many miles you'd have to drive one of those SUVs before putting out pollution comparable to setting one on fire? I'm betting it's a LOT.

Not that it matters, they're just stupid communist thugs who want to destroy stuff, like their World Bank-protesting ilk.

I read some liberal commentary on this issue, and they basically say "Those money hungry greedy bastards have a duty to the public to keep working!"

Hardly a day goes by where I don't see something that sounds like it was lifted directly from Atlas Shrugged.

I can almost top that. I bought a cup of coffee for 94 cents. The cashier apparently assumed I was pulling a 1-dollar bill out of my wallet, so she entered that in the register and of course it said my change was 6 cents. Unfortunately, I gave her a 20. I stood there for at least 20 seconds as she mumbled "12..13...14...". Finally I said "It's 19.06." She gave me a really puzzled look as if I was some kind of genius for knowing what 20 minus 1 is, and gave me the change I requested. I probably could have gotten 50 bucks out of her if I wanted. :)

And to think, these people can VOTE. Yikes.

I'm all for open borders--anyone should be able to come in as they wish unless they are from an enemy country. BUT: there's one condition for this. We need to completely abolish all social welfare programs to eliminate any incentive for parasites to come in and leech off of American taxpayers. Immigration is fine by me if the immigrants are coming here to live freely and work their way up the ladder to acheive the American dream. That's why a lot of us are here today.

But since we are living in a welfare state for now and the forseeable future, the borders should be airtight. Station the military down there and lay mines if we have to--it's bad enough we have to throw away money on welfare leeches who are American citizens, let alone spend it on the countless illegals pouring in every day.

I really don't understand the concept of this "hate crime" crap. I don't believe anyone's life is worth more or less because of their religion, sexual preference, race, etc, etc, etc. A murder is a murder, so the punishment should be consistently applied.

Of course, that's thinking with logic and reason. We can't have that anymore, can we?

There is no comparison about the capacities of a snake and a puppy, snakes will not walk back hundereds of miles to a master who is in trouble to help him/her.

I understand your argument, that dogs are more valuable to humans than snakes because they are loyal, affectionate companions. And I really like dogs and cats, much moreso than other animals. I'm just saying that in the grand scheme of things, an animal is an animal. Laws/moral standards regarding the treatment of them should not be based on someone's subjective perception of their cuteness, loyalty, furriness, etc, etc, etc. Therefore feeding a snake to a puppy or a puppy to a snake should be considered morally equivalent.

'putting emotions aside' would there be a difference if the dog were replaced with ANY living thing?

Humans have rights because we have the capability to think and reason. That doesn't make it okay to torture animals for fun or anything like that, but they don't have the rights that we possess. Putting emotion aside, a dog, horse, snake, lizard, cat, elephant, etc. are all the same regardless of our subjective perceptions of them. It's not any more or less wrong to kill one over the other. Humans are a whole different subject.

That said, I love dogs and would never want to feed puppies to a snake. :)

I don't like this one bit. Why should our tax dollars insure insurance companies? If they are reluctant to cover projects, they can either refuse coverage or charge a higher premium depending on their risk assessment. The govt is using bribes to artifically manipulate the market, and I don't agree with that one bit.

Suppose I were to get 10 speeding tickets, cause a few accidents, etc. and my car insurance company dropped my policy because they determined that I was too much of a risk for them to cover. Should the government step in and make them cover me and offer to pick up the tab if I cost them more money? Of course not. This is the same thing on a larger scale.

The government needs to focus on preventing terrorism IN THE FIRST PLACE rather than leaving our borders open, refusing to profile our enemies, etc. and then saying "Oh well, if we get attacked again, we'll pay for it."

I agree that extermination of every Muslim is a bit much, and I would not support, for instance, internment of Muslims who are American citizens.

However, I do think we have every right to keep Muslims from immigrating to America, and we can assume that non-citizen Muslims are enemies. According to the Quran, in order for someone to be a "true" Muslim, they have to follow all the tenets of the faith. And that includes the commandment that non-Muslims are to be converted or killed. It's a shame that we have to assume followers of a given religion are enemies of ours, but we didn't make up the rules..

Our government has a duty to defend Americans and our way of life first and foremost. Determining which Muslims are enemies and which are friendly because they do not strictly adhere to the religion (MINOs?) is not a priority when American lives are at stake.

I'm an atheist. I haven't heard of any Christians calling for my death because I don't have the same beliefs as them. But there are plenty of Muslims who want to kill anyone who doesn't follow their twisted religion.

To those of you who think we should be tolerant of Islam no matter what its philosophy is, do you think we have an obligation to appreciate and defend the views of the KKK? What if they start calling themselves a religion, would you support them then? So, how is Islam any different?

Of course, there are many Muslims who condemn terrorism and love this country. But: they sure as heck haven't been very vocal, and they are not considered "true" followers of Islam since they don't want to kill us for not being like them. That's what their book says.

I absolutely support religious freedom, but I draw the line when a "religion" calls for the death of anyone who doesn't follow it, and has essentially declared war against Western civilization.

Call me crazy, but when I look for a job, I focus on a company that will provide good pay for a secure position that I want. The colors of my prospective coworkers could not possibly be more irrelevant.

But that line of thought is based on logic and rationality, so I suppose it's not acceptable in this day and age.

Don't sweat it, until I bought my Probe & my MX6 I thought the same way you do. What happens is that when you break down & buy one (a descent one that is) you find out that you can compete with the V-8's & you can also get 20-25 miles to the gallon and trust me when I tell you that's just what happens.

I can back you up on that! My Thunderbird has enough power and torque to spin the tires through first gear from a 5 mph roll and chirp second. It has a 2.3l 4-banger which gets 18 mpg city/25+ hwy with my lead foot. Aren't turbos amazing? I used to be in the "no replacement for displacement" crowd too, not any more! :)

Of course, the Dem. machine is also employing some tried and true last minute sheeple inundation tactics. They have hundreds of paid and unpaid volunteers flooding voters with phone calls and door-to-door literature drops.

It's not just the Dems, fortunately. Here in western Maryland, there are quite a few Republican volunteers going door-to-door. I was happy to see this, even if they did wake me up on a Saturday morning one time. :) I have not received any visits, mailings, literature, etc. from Democrats at all.
