02/06/03 - OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (AFPN) -- In one of her songs, country singer Shania Twain croons about all the things women do these days -- they are judges, politicians, doctors and soldiers, to name a few. Not mentioned in the song, but occurring more frequently as the global war on terrorism continues, is something else: female fliers in combat missions over Afghanistan. Early on Jan. 31, a KC-135 Stratotanker took off from Ganci Air Base, Kyrgyzstan, carrying more than 180,000 pounds of fuel and an all-female crew -- both pilots, a navigator and a boom operator. The event...

Dontee D. Stokes, who admitted shooting a Roman Catholic priest accused of sexually assaulting him nearly a decade ago, was acquitted last night of attempted murder in a Baltimore trial that drew national attention amid the church's unfolding sex scandal. The jury of 11 women and one man took about eight hours to find Stokes, a 26-year-old West Baltimore barber, not guilty of attempted murder and five other counts that could have sent him to prison for life. Jurors did, however, convict Stokes of three lesser handgun charges, which most likely will bring a sentence of probation. Accompanying the verdict...

Congressman Bob Ehrlich’s next political ad in seeking the governership of Maryland should be how he will lift the Glendenning administration’s moratorium on the death penalty in Maryland and how he will seek the death penalty for the individual(s) who committed the shooting crimes in Maryland.

THE BOARD of directors of Guilt Trip Airlines convened on the Mall in our nation's capital this past Saturday to demand that every white American book a flight. Only whites are eligible for flights on Guilt Trip Airlines, you see, for those terrible things they did to all those poor black folks for all those years.

When 76-year-old Marion Howard looks out the window of her Bloomsbury Square apartment in Annapolis, she sees the side of a state garage and maintenance building, and a parking lot jammed with cars. But soon, she'll have a new home with a much more scenic view - tree-lined College Creek, where kayaks stream past and crew teams practice - thanks to a highly unusual plan to relocate dozens of public housing residents to the city's prized waterfront. "I think it's wonderful," Howard said of the planned public housing community, which will include brick sidewalks and units with hardwood floors and...

As local and federal investigations into the shooting continued yesterday, an area congressman and an uncle of the victim expressed their concerns about the FBI's actions. For a fifth day, the FBI refused to release details about the incident. Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., whose 2nd District includes northern Anne Arundel County, called the facts of the case "egregious." Ehrlich said that his office has contacted the Justice Department to make sure appropriate attention is focused on the case. Anyone else notice this, as reported in the Baltimore Sun. I wonder what the implications of Bob Ehrlich being the boy's ...

Soldier's Medal awarded for rescuing girl by Karen Bradshaw FORT GILLEM, Ga. (Army News Service, March 4, 2002) -- The Soldier's Medal was awarded to a field artillery soldier at Fort Stewart, Ga., last month for rushing into his neighbor's burning house and rescuing their young girl. Sgt. 1st Class Gary Ballew was only days away from leaving his assignment at Fort Bragg, N.C., when the fire occurred last year. His household goods had been picked up and the Ballew family was "camping" out until their departure. His new assignment was to be the 2nd Battalion, 306th Regiment, 87th Division ...

Fox reported last evening that there was not one single mention of the massacre of Christians in Pakistan on ABC World News Tonight. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I searched all this morning and couldn't find any web reference. Did anyone else hear this. I don't watch that scum Jennings or the senile Rather or ole' marble mouth Brokaw so I don't know if it's true or not.

It’s apparent that our “war on terrorism” is off to a halting start. Things aren’t going as planned. Militarily, politically, and propagandistically, we’ve got some problems, not to mention the anthrax panic that has the entire civilized world on edge. After two weeks of bombing Afghanistan, we’ve found the Taliban is a tougher nut to crack than the administration and the Pentagon had hoped. It’s not falling apart on schedule. Our Special Forces operation in which 100 or so troops were parachuted into a Taliban stronghold is reported in the Russian press to have been a failure, in that it ...

When President leads, the world will follow 'Calm and resolute': Bush follows the precept that it's better to be right than quick. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally published September 21, 2001 THE PRESENCE of British Prime Minister Tony Blair made clear that President Bush addressed not only Congress and the American people last night, but the world. The leadership he put on display was measured, not impetuous. Because Mr. Bush rose to the responsibility imposed on him, the American people have a clearer idea of what happened last week and what it is they need to do. Mr. Bush himself appeared to have ...
