    RayeHawk said . . .

Do you realize that this petition calls for the deportation of innocent people who came here legally, who are married to US citizens, who are trying to stay here legally and are told by Naturalization and Immigration that they just have to wait (illegally) while their paperwork is processed?

    To which Arleigh ASSerts . . .

This makes absolutely no sense. If they came here legally, they would not be illegal. You are babbling.

And RayeHawk replies . . . Au contraire, my ignorant friend - thousands of people come here legally each year, only to end up illegal when their visas expire or are voided by some change in circumstance. The visas are voided rather quickly, and as I've said, it can take years to get changes made in status.

    RayeHawk also said . . .

My husband currently has a dozen or more guestworkers under his supervision. What is the problem with this?

And once again Arleigh makes a lot of stupid assumptions . . .

If by "guestworkers" you mean illegals, then your husband is breaking the law and I hope he goes to jail.

#1. stupid assumption . . . that the US Gov has a program for illegal migrant workers. Guestworkers are legal non-citizens.

#2. stupid assumption . . . that my husband has employed these people. I said they were under his supervision, not his employees.

    Then Arleigh keeps on . . .

I'll bet if he paid a decent salary, Americans would do the work.

#3. stupid assumption . . . I think $70K a year is a decent salary. How much do you make?

Anyone who hires illegals over Americans to line his own pocket is not only a criminal but a traitor.

Once again your ability to assume astounds me . . .

as previously discussed, these people are not illegal, and

#4. stupid assumption . . . remember I said they can only be hired after a demonstrated need? That means they couldn't find Americans to hire! Guestworker program imports technical and skilled workers to fill jobs that can't be filled. These people are engineers and designers, not dishwashers and farm workers!

    RayeHawk had said . . .

    3. The "Mexico reconquering the Southwest" remark is purely a political statement, with no objective way to measure either the veracity of the statement, or the success in ending it.

And Arleigh continues to hurl insults, once again demonstrating that if you are not intelligent enough to debate, it always works to launch an ad hominem attack . . .

Whereas the United States of America's immigration policy is in shambles. The laws are not being enforced or respected: Whereas America needs to deport all illegal aliens immediately and to secure its borders, even using the military:

Do you realize that this petition calls for the deportation of innocent people who came here legally, who are married to US citizens, who are trying to stay here legally and are told by Naturalization and Immigration that they just have to wait (illegally) while their paperwork is processed? Do you realize that many people are forced into being illegal immigrants by bureaucratic ineptitude? That it takes 3-4 YEARS to get paperwork from INS?

The US government should immediately: Deport all illegal aliens, reduce the number of immigrants allowed into America every year to traditional levels of 250,000, pass a law making English the official language of the United States of America, repeal the motor-voter law, put an end to the Mexican reconquering of California and the Southwest, outlaw amnesties, guestworker programs, earned regularization, and loopholes that cheapen American citizenship.

    1. I believe that motor voter is a separate issue from immigration. It may be registering non-citizens, but it also registers felons, dead people, and others who have no right to vote.

    2. My husband currently has a dozen or more guestworkers under his supervision. What is the problem with this? He couldn't get his project done without them, they work hard, they earn their pay, and they aren't hired until AFTER there is a demonstrated shortage of American workers, then they are the first to be laid off. They don't "take jobs away from Americans", and we need them.

    3. The "Mexico reconquering the Southwest" remark is purely a political statement, with no objective way to measure either the veracity of the statement, or the success in ending it.

I'm so tired of all the biased media pieces - I wish this guy had PRINTED the letters.

Much of the story has not been aired . . . it's easy to say that anyone who invested all of their 401K money in Enron stock is stupid, but there were people who had no choice.

Easy to say that they should have gotten out early, but they were being told that company was solid, and pressured to buy stock by management.

Easy to say the employees were greedy and deserved what they got, but most people don't realize that there are companies owned by Enron, who had no firsthand knowledge, who have been devastated by this fiasco. Their only sin? They were successful enough to get bought up by Enron. Other companies like TECO in Fla., did business with NEPCO, an Enron owned subsidary. Neither TECO nor NEPCO were involved in any wrongdoing, but they may go down.

Everyone who posts Enron stories, especially the vanity posts that say "Stupid Enron employees . . . I saw trouble coming" don't know anything like the whole story.

This is not a study based on fragrance - it's about being able to smell men who is genetically compatible, but NOT related. I've read the results, and find it fascinating . . . women were not attracted by the scents of men who were closely related.

The men didn't smoke, drink, or wear fragrances, ate bland food, refrained from sex, etc. so that all that was being smelled was "pure man".

To answer your question - he belongs in a treatment facility or juvenile detention coupled with a treatment program.

OK, I see - the problem is that you don't understand the problem. A group home is a treatment facility or juvenile detention coupled with a treatment program.

We don't have any other residential facilities for juveniles, and he's demonstrated that he will prey upon other residents of a group home.

I'd like to think that the kid can be treated and set on the right path. Is it just the lurid nature of the crime that suggests your means of dealing with it?

Unfortunately, housing this young animal is a problem. I'm not willing to set him loose once again in a group home where he can prey upon salvageable troubled kids. He's already blown that chance.

So once again, we come back to the original problem - where would you house him?

Ice is NOT as good as aloe; but a combination of both, works better for a bad burn. As a " kitchen witch " , you need to know that. Actually, there is a new precription cream, which works MUCH better than anythingt that I or you have recommeded, but is more expensive.

See, in your effort to prove how "IRRESPONSIBLE" I am, you just didn't even read . . . you need the ice first, whether you use aloe or my personal remedy - tea tree salve.

Which was kind of my point - this is not a measure of responsiblity, but of your personal tastes and judgements.

Assets don't count, so you are in deep doo doo ! People should have a seperate emmergency bank account, a savings account, and a college / school fund account if they have children . Thus far, you are quite IRRESPONSIBLE. Care to do the last 25 questions later ?

I don't understand how you believe that your judgements of other people, compared to YOUR situation could measure responsiblity?

For example, you mentioned kitty litter and sand in the car . . . what, I might run into a stray cat who needs a potty break?

Here in Western Washington, that's all I can imagine needing kitty litter for.

If you and your test subjects are male, WHY would you need a bottle in the car?

I believe it is much more responsible to refrain from burning oneself in the kitchen, if the alternative is to call everyone who doesn't have tubes of aloe in the kitchen IRRESPONSIBLE.

In our home, really responsible people KNOW that ice and tea tree salve (made by the household goddess, herself) are the way that RESPONSIBLE people treat burns.

Just my never to be humble opinions . . .

Ref #12: Just north of you in the Socialist Republic of Washington, they have inacted a state-wide ban on burn barrels. Now you can get a hefty fine if caught burning in one.
Also, the only outdoor burning allowed (where outdoor burning is allowed) is for "natural vegetation" which includes leaves, small amounts of yard debris and of course the huge slash piles that Wyerhouser(sp?) burns when they clearcut an area. Talk about friggen payoffs!!!

One of the arguments my hugsband uses to justify his goofy goats. (He has 2 nubian goat girls that live in our yard) . . . "they take care of all our yard waste, sweetie."

Democrats want to "professionalize" the screeners by making them government workers something every clear minded person must view with skepticism because of the union rules. Why not make them government workers but do not allow them to be unionized.

I keep hearing this - every day, someone on radio or TV says that airport screeners must be government employees, or we'll never be safe. What everyone forgets is that airport screeners ARE government employees NOW. SeaTac's baggage screeners are employed by the Port of Seattle, not the airlines. Why does anyone think that the feds will do any better than local gov?

  • What's wrong with education?

I hate to disagree with Mr. Williams, but the reason why home schooled children are so much more successful (on the average) than their government schooled counterparts is parental involvement. The more a parent is involved in a student's education, the more likely the student is to succeed. Apathetic parents typically don't expend the effort or money to educate their kids, and typically send their children to the cheapest source of education. An involved parent usually wants to be sure their child gets a quality education. Perhaps they can't home school or private school their child, but they will at least check their homework, discuss lessons, drive them to the library to get materials for a report, etc.

Yes, I agree that parent involvement is necessary. And your answer that after we work 8-10 hours a day to pay for "the cheapest education possible", we must then devote another 2-3 hours a day to "being involved in our children's education" is simplistic and unworkable. To say nothing of the 10 hours of schooling this subjects the child to? I was homeschooled for several years. We accomplished standard curriculum in less than 10% of the time I would have put in in government school.

I believe that the main reasons that most children are not homeschooled is that 1. parents must work to pay for the "free" education their kids are getting, and 2. the parents are too exhausted at the end of the day to have time to learn the facts of the situation. Remember the parents have government school educations, and this won't surprise you. After all these poor people have been taught for 12 years that government is good, government is the solution, and you should trust your government.

The problem is not all religion, it is certain specific religion.

In my never humble opinion, it is any religion which attempts to force their beliefs and morals on others.

Most religions forget the concept that it is up to God to sort out the sinners, and believe they must do God's work for God. Judge not, lest ye be judged!
