I attended the meeting. What I saw did not encourage me. The speakers all made sound points, individually. But the meeting lacked simple and consistent themes to bind conservatives together. I simply did not see enough of a conservative consensus to say that such a simple conservative message exists. What I can say for sure is that the recent changes indicate that Obama is losing, not that we are winning. Until we can move beyond "no" as our message, we do not control our destiny.

I turned in a cash for clunkers car yesterday. The whole transaction took 3.5 hour and this for an all-cash purchase! For my tax-payer provided $4500, I purchased a small, reliable car having less than 1% US content. So my grant, which I didn’t really need, took money from the US economy letting me buy a car I didn’t really have to have, and didn’t employ any US manufacturing assets. If this makes sense to you could you let me know.

I checked last night and the version that I had (from ABC news) enabled key word searches in the pdf version. This is possible if they produced the file allowing indexing, which seems to be the case.

Actually it is worse that than. According to IRS regs a 501-c-1 organization cannot support a pollitical candidate and is subject to loosing its tax-free status if it does. This is clear at the irs.gov website. I wonder how the board gets away with this decision...

Actually after the Black Death in which the population of Europe declined by a third the biggest economic problem as inflation. Survivors inherited such monetary wealth as existed. Thus the supply of money per captia increased while the economic base declined. In short too much money chasing too few goods. The economic impact of this massive inflation far exceeded the demographic impact.

Could anyone have written these memos in 1972?

Evidence of composition; kerning and leading

Based on analysis of IBM Selectric Composition machine capabilities seems doubtful although with more work may be feasible. Special concerns about centering and leading.

    Evidence of the type face

Based on analysis of copies, significant doubts whether the type face known as Times Roman in 1972 was used in the composition of the memos. Access to original would improve assessment.

Evidence of paper condition and age

Not available without original but paper could be dated and also could be examined to see if printed by impact method.

Could any TANG office have written these memos in 1972?

    Evidence of office equipment availability

IBM Selectric machine shown to be possibly capable of composing memos very expensive for military subordinate HQ use. Moreover, seems to require significant training.

    Evidence office equipment capability

Normal IBM Selectric typewriter is not capable of proportionate type, regardless of type face. Could be possible to determine if TANG purchased composition machine in relevant time period.

    Evidence of office practice

What was standard format for memos from the office? What type face specified? Type size; pica, elite?

Could competent military personnel in a TANG office have written these memos?

    Evidence of anachronisms

Retired officer included by reference as though on active duty.

    Evidence of false references

Air Force Manuals cited for authority instead of Air Force Regulations. Questions emerge as to address.

    Evidence of date formats

Date formats used not consistent with military practice in all branches.

    Evidence of letter head

HQs used preprinted stationary with letterhead.

    Evidence of paper size

Standard paper different from today’s sizes. Would need original to confirm.

Could LTC Killian have written these memos?

    Evidence of personal note practice

Killian not known for taking personal notes to file.

    Evidence of typing skills

Killian not known to have typing skills or practice of personally typing memos.

Evidence of text composition and jargon

Killian not known for using jargon in samples. Would need to confirm with more extensive textual analysis.

    Evidence of witnesses

Witnesses seem to have mixed views but in any case do not seem to be uniformly informed as to the full content of the memos/

    Evidence of the signature

Signatures in the memos seem significantly different from know true sample signatures.

Also note in the first memo someone typed Day Mon, Year. That comma would never be included in a military date.

  • Hundreds rally in support of troops

    UpStateNY
BIG FLATS | Holding American flags and wearing pins, buttons and hats symbolizing national pride, hundreds rallied at the National Warplane Museum Saturday in support of troops overseas.

The event was organized to stem the anti-war movement and help boost the morale of local military personnel and their families, said Dennis Wolfe of the Elmira chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, which sponsored the event. More than 400 people attended the two-hour rally.

"How proud am I to be in this room," said Wolfe told the crowd. "Ask any veteran if we want war and the answer will be, 'Hell, no.' But if we must, we don't want our troops to get the same message that Vietnam vets got going over and coming back home. We can't let that happen."

The United States has been lobbying to gain United Nations support to go to war with Iraq to disarm the country of weap-ons of mass destruction and oust dictator Saddam Hussein.

Bill "Doc" Schmidtz, a Vietnam veteran, said people can disagree with going to war, but if the decision is made, the country must unite and support the troops.

"Nobody here has a problem with (anti-war) protesters and demonstrators," said Schmidtz, editor of the Veteran of Foreign Wars state newspaper. "But when they demonstrate, in one hand they should be holding their protest signs and the other should be holding the American flag."

Frederick Lounsbery, a Navy veteran, said this type of event lets soldiers know the nation is behind them and they are appreciated.

"I hope the troops see these types of things," Lounsbery said.

Veteran Dick Dalton, who has two sons in the military, said this is the type of event that should have been held during Vietnam.

"I want my sons to know the people are behind them," Dalton said.

"I am here because I support all of our armed forces. I support our country and our president," said Rose Anne Swarthout of Horseheads. "It's a great turnout, but I'm not surprised. I knew we all supported our country."

Wolfe asked those in attendance to urge local politicians to let the armed forces do their job if President George W. Bush decides to go to war.

"Call, write and e-mail local political leaders," Wolfe said. "Say, hands off the military. Let them do what they do best. Run it to win."

Wolfe said pictures taken at the event will be sent to military outposts overseas, so soldiers know they are supported back home.

"I think it's a good message to send," said Kevin Backer, an Army reservist who was recently activated. "We have received the order that we are going on active duty. Our orders could be in the Persian Gulf or they could be stateside. Either way, an event like this is great to see."

Common Time Choral Group and Horseheads Middle School students performed patriotic songs.

Wolfe said similar events may be held in the coming months whether the nation is at war or not.

I would agree with reparations, if their provision would end all affirmative action, equal oppornity programs. 1. Such programs hurt more than help 2. It seems only fair to have one or the other.

Remember that the Indian Army was the only Pacific area military force to defeat an invading Japanese miltary unit. THis occured at Ramsaland (bad spelling) in 1942 after the Japanese had conquered Singapore Malaysia Burma etc. Long military tradition there.
