Lived on Cape Cod for 2 1/2 years. Groton has nuclear subs - at least one on display. Mystic is awesome - see the aquarium. New Haven itself - not so nice. My great-uncle lived there for 30+ years and when he went back to visit, he said it wasn’t the same place. Newport, RI is not a far drive and the waterfront is nice.

I was at the St Louis Rally with my 9 year old daughter and 7 year old son. The heat was nasty but they had a ton of free water locations, so most kept hydrated. Some misters would have been nice.

Anyway, the excitement was there. It was huge. There were women all over wearing Hillary t-shirts. I overheard a black woman talking about being pro-choice, in favor of major abortion restrictions, Hillary supporter, and no chance at all that she’d vote for Obama now.

My daughter was thrilled that she got to see Palin and McCain. She figures she won’t get to be the first President, but since now it won’t be a Democrat, being the 2nd or 3rd woman in the office is ok by her.

There was also a table for Democrats for McCain there. They weren’t crowded, but had a steady stream of people coming by.

Did I mention it was CROWDED!!!

I’m not a country music fan, but Raising McCain was decent.

Anyway, it was well worth attending. Cannot wait for the next campaign event near enough to attend.

I agree. What I like about this is that science, when someone looks for an ethical and expedient solution (they do exist), comes up with a morally acceptable way to accomplish a goal. I'll qualify that with "if what they say about the inability to grow into a new life is true".

I have read and as a trained scientist, believe, that the more I learn about how the universe and the world works, the more I belive in God, not less. Medical technology, to me, is just an amazing gift from God. Like many gifts, it can be abused, but when it's used correctly, it's a wonderful and astounding thing. My father, a physician, constantly talks about treatments, medications, and procedures that didn't exist 20 years ago. He considers most of those miracles that God has performed. I wish more people, especially Christians, would realize that.

I normally wouldn't want Congress getting involved in something like this. However, as long as baseball has the anti-trust exemption, they are a special category, and in my opinion, Congress can regulate them to death. If the exemption is lifted, the open market will take care of it.

Wish I could join up just the first time. I missed the chance when I was young and stupid. Now, at 33, good health, but overweight, and two pins and a 2 inch screw in my wrist from a ligament tear. Recruiters told me not to bother.

These posts are all makings the huge assumption that the Astros will beat the Cardinals. Let's remember which team it was that had the best record in baseball, five gold gloves, and a 2-3-4-5 that's one of the best EVER. Not to mention that although Backe pitched a gem in game 5, so did Williams. As much as I want to see the Red Sox win one (lived in Mass. for 3 years) or the Astros (respect a lot of those guys - they play hard every game), in the end, the Yankees don't have enough pitching and the Cardinals have too many big bats. Yankees and Cardinals in the Series and Cards win in 6.

If anyone finds info on names of those involved - I went to college there, and also lived there in elementary through junior high. I know a lot of people in town and I'm more than a little concerned.

This annoys me. At the bottom of this article is the following statement:
The converted Muslim and gun-rights advocate was from Lynnwood, Washington.

The gun-rights advocate description has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this article or his actions. You be as correct to say, "animal rights activist" or "high school football player". It's a clear bias. To be expected, but makes me angry anyway.

I've been on atkins for 6 months. I was at 304. I was unable to excercise due to bad joint problems - knees, wrists, etc. I can't bike because I had a wrist ligament reconstruction and have limited range of motion. I couldn't walk because even 20 minutes left my right knee swollen. So, I tried the 2000 calorie low fat diet - no loss and I was irritable. In the last 6 months, I have lost 43 pounds - I'm at 260 now. Because the extra weight did strengthen my legs some, with the 40 off, I can walk an hour a day without pain or swelling. I have tons more energy. My chronic migraine headaches have all but stopped (from 1/month down to 1 in 6 months). I stand a good chance of being down to 200 pounds by Christmas, so if there are some long term risks, weighed against my family history of early heart attacks, I'll take those risks because I know I've already added 10 years to my life.

No worries on the production of this. The company that owns the rights to ALL SEVEN books is run by a couple of Christians who were in the movie industry and realized they could do PG or less quality films. This is likely to be a powerful film. http://www.walden.com/about.html

Actually, I would say his issue is not any one of those things you listed, but two of them combined. No degree looking for managerial position. At nearly 50, your husband has more experience than me (8 years so far), but I've been considered for and even offered some managerial jobs. My education - a B.S. in Chemistry.

If he had a degree of any kind, I believe it would make a HUGE difference. I got my first IT jobs with only two classes left, and I was REQUIRED to finish them before my first annual review. I got a 6K raise, and make three times that now.

Being a computer systems engineer, and being in the 3rd job this year (one voluntary change, one not), I can categorically state that any IT person or engineer who is out of work needs only to be willing to move, or isn't looking in the right place. There are TONS of jobs. I get recruiter calls on a regular basis. In fact, I make 20% more than when I lost my first job, and I'm 1/3 the distance away, cutting my commute from 1 hour to about 24 minutes.

The problem is that a computer professional in the age range of 25-45 spent the bulk of their careers in the mid-90's, where they could name their price. They never had to do a real job search, and they have unrealistic expectations of salary they should make. Case in point: I have a friend qualified to be a unix systems administrator. He was making 90K + for a dotcom, and is looking in that range. Realistically, he should be looking in the 55-70K range instead (I got offered 3 jobs in six weeks in that salary range when I got laid off).

Most of us were used to 20 jobs for each person looking, and now it's more like 1 or 2 jobs per person. They're there, just harder to find. Also, computer companies aren't the place to find a quick job any more. But, manufacturing, hospitals, non-profits, etc still need IT staff.

Okay, I'm not a big fan of McCain, but his current review of the federal budget (he's got an hour of time), is hilarious. He's dripping sarcasm about federal waste, and just RIPPED the Senator from Hawaii a new one over giving a foreign shipping company exclusive rights for some domestic shipping routes. If he'd forget about campaign finance and work on federal budget reduction, I could learn to really like him.
  • Help: I Need Some Moral Reasons Why We Should Not Legislate Religious Morality

ALL law is legislated morality. Why was it decided that murder should be illegal? Because it's immoral. Why can't I rip the clothes off of any hot woman I see? Because it's immoral. See - legislated morality. The problem you run into is when the morality is downplayed, and there is no longer a basis or foundation for the laws and moral structure those laws support.
