The demonstrations have diminished greatly over the last two weeks, but the anger remains. The government promises real reforms (which would result in a new government if there were a fair elections), but many Algerians are dubious. The government has mustered its loyal followers and has made life difficult for the opposition (most of the population.) But the opposition is still there and the people are still angry. This is a pause, not a halt, to the pro-reform demonstrations and political activity. Al Qaeda terrorists continue to be more active, but their attacks appear to be spontaneous, not carefully planned...

Mitt Romney once said financing his own campaign would be a "nightmare." Writing checks, he said this week, is "painful." It doesn't seem to be stopping him. Romney is his presidential campaign's most generous supporter, lending $17.5 million from his personal fortune so far. His Republican rivals are bracing themselves for him to do it again. And again. Romney is hardly the first presidential candidate to cut himself a check — Steve Forbes and Ross Perot spent far more than he has. But the businessman-turned-politician, who can raise money AND open his wallet, may have the best chance to win...

A Manhattan judge is siding with two women who didn't get dates. The judge says the Internet dating service Great Expectations has to refund all their fees after dashing their expectations. One woman was refunded the $1,000 she paid for a six-month membership. The other gets the nearly $3,800 she paid for a 54-month deal. The judge said, "There was a massive overcharge by the dating service." Great Expectations had claimed its operation was set up in a way so that the state's Dating Services Law did not apply to it. It plans to appeal the ruling.
