I was notified several weeks ago to report for Jury Duty today. A responsibility of all American citizens and one that I was proudly called to be a part of. I am a resident of Gwinnett County Georgia. In the process, we were shown a 12-minute video explaining why it was a civic responsibility of all Americans. First of all, the video was over 10 years old, but most glaringly, it was filled with multiple false statements. One of the most glaring false comments that stuck with me was that they said America is a Federated Democracy. I did my...

Duty – Honor – Country. Those three hallowed words, reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, and what you will be. They are your rallying points: to build courage, when courage seems to fail; to regain faith, when there seems to be little cause for faith; to create hope when hope becomes forlorn. . Douglas MacArthur graduated from West Point in 1903. By that time, “Duty Honor Country” was already recognized as the official West Point motto. Since then, it has become ubiquitous – Among many other things, it is on the West Point crest that...

Jettisoning the motto in today’s environment poses a real risk to the substance of West Point’s mission and to national security.. March 7, Superintendent Steve Gilland announced a planned change to the official mission of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point: eliminating the words “Duty,” “Honor,” and “Country.” It is impossible to overstate the reverence with which those three words have been held at West Point, in the entire Army, and throughout the U.S. military. In his 1962 farewell address to the West Point Corps of Cadets, Gen. Douglas MacArthur encapsulated their meaning for American soldiers: Duty, Honor, Country...

At the turn of the first millenium, one of the last Anglo-Saxon kings, Æthelred of the House of Wessex, reigned over England. He came to the throne as a smooth-cheeked boy. By all accounts a man of pleasing aspect and courteous disposition, he might otherwise have made a fine king, and indeed he showed promise of living up to the meaning of his name, ‘noble counsel’, when he introduced the custom of jury trial by decreeing that matters of guilt or innocence should be decided by conveying [...]12 thanes rather than relying on the decision of a single judge. However,...

President Joe Biden’s staffers worked furiously Thursday night to combat accusations that his speech at Independence Hall was too partisan against “extreme” MAGA Republicans. The president repeatedly condemned “MAGA Republicans” and supporters of former President Donald Trump as violent extremists who represented a threat to American democracy.

An excellent film about the sinking of the Titanic from the perspective of the firemen below decks. Film is titled "Saving the Titanic" but I have used the title seen at youtube. Because they soon knew the extent of the disaster, the dread and horror of the event is conveyed with much greater realism and intensity.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to withhold the House articles of impeachment from the Senate, further trivializing a serious constitutional power and process. Senate Republicans seem content to play along while ridiculing her gambit, but they should take their own duties more seriously and hold a trial. One emerging dodge seems to be that President Trump isn’t formally impeached until the articles are transmitted to the Senate. This is absurd.

"Visitors ran for cover. News media piled into vehicles together. The streets flooded. Trees as old as the cemetery itself broke at the trunk and came crashing down. But America's Regiment endured," the Third U.S. Infantry Regiment posted on Facebook, with photos. .. The Third Regiment, or Old Guard, plants flags at Arlington National Cemetery on the Thursday before the holiday as part of a tradition called "flags in." President Trump participated Thursday in placing flags at headstones before departing on a flight for a four-day visit to Japan. On Saturday, the U.S. Army tweeted out the photo of the...

Pierce Bush, a grandson and nephew of presidents, announced Wednesday he is considering running for a Texas seat held by Republicans for decades until last year. Bush, 38, is eyeing the Lone Star State's 7th Congressional District, in the Houston suburbs. His grandfather George H.W. Bush, represented a version of the district from 1967 to 1971. There should be very little legal controversy in the military's employment to defend the border against an unlawful incursion by foreign nationals. The defense of territory and persons is the primary responsibility of the Department of Defense. Other authorities also relevant specifically, the provisions under federal law as vested under Title 10, Chapter 13 of the U.S. code: That whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he...

Tariffs are a wonderful idea, aren’t they? A tariff – technically, a tax on an imported good, usually as a percentage of the good's value – sounds almost too good to be true. A tariff raises money on imports, but encourages Americans to stop importing, and to buy local goods instead of foreign; it serves a foreign policy purpose by punishing our enemies, and it helps pay for seaports and border protection. Quite a multifaceted, targeted tool. It’s like one of those magical diet pills that helps you get thinner in the waist, broader in the shoulders and chest, make...

God Bless America! Yesterday was the 55th anniversary of General Douglas MacArthur’s famed “Duty, Honor, Country” speech that he delivered to the Corps of Cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, on May 12, 1962. This is considered one of the great speeches in American history. Even if you have read it before, please take time again to listen to the audio and follow along with the text (link below), as it is timely considering our U.S. Military is currently engaged in serious national defense of our country …. throughout the world.

One hears a lot of talk about America turning into a Third World kleptocracy. I've worked in a lot of Third World kleptocracies, back in the days when the Reagan Revolution was fresh and the Reaganauts thought we could export free markets and democracy to the rest of the world. We didn't, of course. But I had the opportunity to see first-hand what separates a banana republic from the land of the free and the home of the brave. It comes down to the grit of a few people willing to do their job come hell or high water--not look...

“Every now and then, in the middle of the constant barrage of crap that’s just pissing us all off these days, we come across a story, a feat, an event that just makes us stop in our tracks. This was one for me. “Cody Green was a 12-year kid in Indiana who was diagnosed with leukemia at 22 months old. He loved the Marines, and his parents said he drew strength and courage from the Marine Corps as ... he bravely fought the battle into remission three times. Although he was cancer-free at the time, the chemotherapy had lowered his...

(JTA) Dirty, hot and exhausted Israeli soldiers waiting for their bus home from the army base tend, understandably, to be in a hurry to get on board. But when I was living in Israel during the first intifada, soldiers didn’t jostle to be first in line. Rather, the most coveted position was second. That’s because the bus driver had the right – under rules issued by the army and made clear to each armed soldier before she or he left the base – to order any soldier to sit in the front seat and remain alert. And the first one...

Gates writes about Obama with an ambivalence that he does not resolve, praising him as “a man of personal integrity” even as he faults his leadership. Though the book simmers with disappointment in Obama, it reflects outright contempt for Vice President Biden and many of Obama’s top aides. Biden is accused of “poisoning the well” against the military leadership. Thomas Donilon, initially Obama’s deputy national security adviser, and then-Lt. Gen. Douglas E. Lute, the White House coordinator for the wars, are described as regularly engaged in “aggressive, suspicious, and sometimes condescending and insulting questioning of our military leaders.” During that...
