Former President Donald Trump’s political comeback suffered a blow in Nebraska after his choice for the GOP gubernatorial nomination was beaten in the primary by a hog farm owner. With almost all precincts reporting early Wednesday, Jim Pillen — who is also a veterinarian and a University of Nebraska regent — had 33.9% of the vote compared to 30.2% for Trump-endorsed Charles Herbster.

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a rally in Nebraska featuring Republican gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster, whose campaign was shaken less than a week earlier after multiple women (falsely) accused him of groping or inappropriate touching. Herbster has denied the allegations. Aside from Trump, Herbster is the only person so far slated to speak at the rally in Greenwood, Nebraska, on April 29, less than two weeks before the primary election on May 10.

Nebraska gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster has been accused of sexual misconduct by eight women, prompting a bipartisan group of state senators to call for an end to the Republican’s campaign. “We commend the brave women who have stepped forward to tell the truth about what they endured at the hands of Charles Herbster, including our friend and colleague, Senator Julie Slama,” a statement signed by Slama, a Republican, and a dozen other state senators, said.
