Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who will likely become the next Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, praised President Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee, William Barr, on Friday, saying he is “highly capable, highly respected and will provide new and much-needed leadership for the Department of Justice.” President Trump confirmed that on Friday, he will nominate as his next attorney general the man who served as attorney general from 1991-1993 during the George H.W. Bush administration. “He was my first choice since day one,” Trump said on Friday morning. Sen. Graham, who will likely replace the outgoing Judiciary chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA),...

A majority of U.S. voters don’t believe that President Obama has been “aggressive” enough in his efforts to thwart Islamic State terrorists or disable Iran’s nuclear capabilities. According to a Fox News poll released Thursday, 59 percent of American adults agree that the Obama administration has not been aggressive enough in its actions to combat the Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIS or ISIL.) Only 29 percent believe the president has been adequately aggressive. The poll, which was conducted between July 13 and 15, also indicates that Americans believe Obama has been too weak in his actions regarding Iran’s...

This is what Elizabeth Warren started. She gave them the intellectual foundation for their protest. I really hate these people.

Chicks dig Gov. Deval Patrick, a new Suffolk University/7News poll shows. This gender gap is oh-so-sweet if you’re the Democratic incumbent from Milton, with a full 43 percent of women supporting Patrick - compared to just 31 percent giving the nod to the GOP’s Charlie Baker, Patrick’s main rival.

Obama losing his cool? By: Carol E. Lee July 16, 2009 10:35 AM EST It’s been a tough week for President Obama’s cool factor. Not only is he weathering criticism of his policies, but the Cool One has also taken a few dings to his immaculate image in recent days. It started on Monday. Speaking at the White House, Obama was just getting into a sharp defense of his economic agenda when one of the teleprompter screens holding his speech crashed to the floor and shattered into pieces. “Oh, goodness,” said a surprised Obama. “Sorry about that, guys.” Needing a...

REPUBLICANS FACE THE PROSPECT of losing a substantial number of Senate and House seats today, but it didn't have to be that way. For sure, the war in Iraq was always going to be a drag on Republicans. And an election in the sixth year of a presidency is often perilous for the president's party, a pattern that's held true in year six of the Bush era. But Republicans have made matters worse by abandoning the reform agenda that animated their capture of Congress in 1994 and helped George W. Bush win the White House in 2000 and keep it...

A Statement from John Kerry As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: my poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop. I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended. It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I don’t want my verbal slip to be a diversion...

Daniel Craig will have a problem playing the new James Bond - because he hates guns. The actor will wield 007's famous Walther PPK in the movie Casino Royale. But he revealed in OK! magazine: "I hate handguns. Handguns are used to shoot people and as long as they are around, people will shoot each other. "That's a simple fact. I've seen a bullet wound and it was a mess. It was on a shoot and it scared me. Bullets have a nasty habit of finding their target and that's what's scary about them." Nor does the 37-year-old share Bond's...

Many argue that communism will never be possible because of "human nature". The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. • This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...

I am so mad at Judge Greer, I could spit. I will be protesting him in the morning in the Wal Mart parking lot. I am putting together my protest sign, but I need a good slogan. I am thinking something catchy using "Greer" and "queer" would be clever, but I can't think of anyhting good. Would the freepers please help me with this?

We want a country where we can burn the heretics, put the gays in the labor camps, and put bibles back in our schools to get that horrible science out. Let's stop preaching this "democracy" nonsense. Democracy is for those liberal Democrat judges, not us at Free Republic. We want a theocracy, where the laws of the Lord are obeyed. I want the U.S. to be a merciless ruler of the world, no mercy for the arabs, because mercy is for liberal Democrats. So who's with me? Let's show those ACLU constitution-lovin' terrorists what America is all about! PRAISE THE...

What happens when habitual warmongering and BushCo lies become part of our daily diet? And then you read the appalling little story about how BushCo is now "taking steps" to further the investigation into why their original intelligence on Iraq was so painfully, treasonously, colon-clenchingly wrong, why they thought Saddam had giant Costco-sized warehouses stacked to the rafters with snarling nukes and nasty biotoxins and active warheads when, in fact, he had nothing but a couple Dumpsters full of rusty 20-year-old shell casings and a bucket of stale glue.

We kill millions of pets every year Who cares if a few get posh shelters and humane laws? OK. So I tend to think people who insist on calling themselves pet "guardians" instead of "owners" are exasperating and a bit wrongheaded, and that such uber-PC thinking does almost nothing to change or improve the behavior of the thousands of animal abusers in this country. And I tend to agree with fabulous dog writer Jon Katz that such semantic sidestepping does more harm to the animals than good, and leads to naive treatment, lack of decent training and an outright ignorance...

A new year, a Bush-gutted, storm-ravaged world and you in need of some juicy, heartfelt pledges -- This is the year. No, really. This is the it. This is the year you resolve to let it all hang out and lick the fingertips of the divine and stop holding back and stop quivering with unchecked anticipation/dread as you realize that, if you care a whit for self-definition and spiritual nuance and hot wet intelligence and deep karmic color in this tsunami-hammered, Bush-ravaged world, you are desperately needed right now. It's true. Alas, many are dejected. Many of the blue or...

Attention, liberal shoppers! Next year, screw those GOP-supportin' companies, and try buying blue Do you care much that greasy ol' Pizza Hut gave tens of thousands in PAC money to the GOP last year? How about the fact that Taco Bell stopped pumping out their happily toxic semirancid meatlike substances just long enough to write a fat check to the conservative Right? Isn't that weirdly fascinating, in a depressing and indigestible sort of way? Does it matter a whit that, say, Fruit of the Loom underwear gave nearly 100 percent of its corporate donations to tighty-whitey-wearing Republicans, nearly every one...
