Obama has just given an eager world his fantasy answer for the last sixty years of Arab-Israel conflict. The Great One's long-awaited solution is for Israel to pull back to the cease-fire lines of the 1948 War of Independence, or what Obama, in a moment of historical amnesia, calls "the 1967 borders." People have fought and died over those borders since 1949, not 1967. Make that sixty years of regular warfare. Take a quick glance at the Green Line on the map, and see if you can honestly answer this question: "Would I want my family and children to live...

The Security Cabinet on Wednesday approved a wider ground offensive in south Lebanon that was expected to take 30 days as part of a new push to badly damage Hizbullah, Cabinet minister Eli Yishai said. The decision was made with nine ministers in favor and three abstaining. The Security Cabinet authorized troops to push to the Litani River some 30 kilometers from the Israel-Lebanon border. Currently, some 10,000 soldiers are fighting Hizbullah in a six-kilometer-deep stretch from the Israel-Lebanon border. Yishai said the proposed operation was expected to take 30 days. However, an internationally backed cease-fire was expected to be...

Peretz's comments come in light of the continuation of military operations in south Lebanon and diplomatic efforts to find a solution for the crisis, mainly at the United Nations Security Council. "A military confrontation is not sufficient," Peretz stressed. "It is a tool that creates a room for maneuver for reaching the best political deal." Peretz said that Israel's biggest problem is the fact that over million Israelis are in shelters and the army's duty is to allow northern communities to return to their lives as soon as possible.

BOURJ AL-MULOUK, Lebanon - Hezbollah fired its biggest and deepest volley of rockets into Israel on Wednesday as Israel pursued the guerrillas with 8,000 soldiers on the ground and heavy bombing. With fighting in its fourth week and diplomatic efforts stalled, the region braced for a bitter and long war. In eastern Lebanon, villagers wept as heavy machinery carried off the bodies of those killed in an overnight raid against a Hezbollah stronghold. Across northern Israel, forests and fields lay scorched from rocket fire that killed a Massachusetts native fleeing on his bicycle after a warning siren went off. Hopes...

Woke up this morning with a sense of foreboding about the day, and the little still voice in my heart said, "You really ought to being doing serious prayer today for the Middle East, for Israel, for the innocent and even for those you know who are your enemies." I haven't been able to shake this, so here I am, asking those who feel so moved, to join me in a call to prayer for this day, for those in harm's way, that the Lord's will be done. "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is...

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration has settled on a plan for a possible invasion of Iraq that envisions seizing most of the country quickly and encircling Baghdad, but assumes that Saddam Hussein will probably fall from power before U.S. forces enter the capital, senior U.S. military officials said.

Hedging its bets, the Pentagon is also preparing for the possibility of prolonged fighting in and around Baghdad. Administration war planners expect that, even if the Iraqi president is deposed, there could be messy skirmishes there and in Saddam's hometown, Tikrit, the military officials said.

Lebanon: The Fuse for Armageddon by Charles Krauthammer Just end the occupation of the West Bank, say the Arabs, and we will guarantee Israel peace. Lebanon proves otherwise. If you want to know where the Israeli-Palestinian war is going, watch Lebanon. If the war goes -- literally -- ballistic, the fuse will have been lit by the Iran-backed Hezbollah guerrillas now firing rockets into Israel from Lebanon. But did Israel not withdraw from Lebanon almost two years ago? Why is there still a problem with Lebanon? Indeed, Israel had been in Lebanon for about 20 years. It was a classic...

They made speeches at intersections condemning the Israeli attacks on Palestine and asked for donations from motorists, cyclists and pedestrians for the Palestinians. The anti-Israeli rally was the biggest ever of its kind in the province and caused traffic congestion. Chairman of the provincial branch of the Justice Party, Johan Rosihan, called...
