Anti-Israel protesters at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, tried to stand guard over a wall they had vandalized, and when they refused to stand down, the contractor hired to repaint the wall simply painted over them. The wall had been covered with red handprints and what CWRU President Eric Kaler referred to in a letter as “threatening, intimidating and antisemitic” language. Another wall was also painted by protesters, Kaler noted, saying that the language on that wall was “less threatening but still intimidating to some in our community.” In that same letter, he announced the university’s plans...

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida man was arrested after, police said, they caught him using spray paint to cover up pro-Palestinian graffiti at a South Florida highway. Thirty-year-old Yoni Maimon was charged with two counts of criminal mischief. “The boss called me around 8 a.m. and told me about some ‘Free Palestine,’ and if I can cover,” said Maimon. “I drive through I-95 next to exit 27 and I saw under the bridge the ‘Free Palestine,’ ‘Free Gaza,’ and then I went to Home Depot, bought the spray, and I just covered everything.” According to the arrest...

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on July 11 announced new proposed rules for lead paint in a bid to prevent hundreds of thousands of children from being exposed to the toxic substance. Officials predict that the rule will reduce lead exposures for 250,000 to 500,000 children younger than the age of 6 each year, the agency said in a statement. The mandate would enhance the EPA’s regulations under section 402 of the Toxic Substances Control Act, which would revise the standards for how much lead dust can be on floors, window sills, and other locations in older buildings. “The...

It sounds like a bad joke about woke gone amok, but it’s not. Norway’s University of Bergen is sponsoring research into the burning question of whether and how white paint contributes to white supremacy and why Norway should feel guilty about it because of its role in it. It turns out, you see, that Norwegians were behind the innovation of titanium white paint, which is considered pure white. The university wants researchers to explore “the cultural and aesthetic changes instigated by titanium white … and how can both the material in itself and these changes be conceptualized and made visible?”...

ROME — Norway’s University of Bergen has launched a study of the role played by white paint in extending white supremacy around the globe. The university has received a $1.2 million government grant for its research project “How Norway Made the World Whiter” (NorWhite) to investigate “how white paint has contributed to white supremacy around the world.” The project studies the Norwegian innovation of the white pigment titanium dioxide to show “how Norway has played a globally leading role in establishing white as a superior color.”

When Mystrichrome was fresh and new, it was not an easy paint to get ahold of. If you owned a Mystichrome Cobra and got into an accident that required paint repair, you were in for a nasty surprise. Only certain body shops around the country could spray the paint, and to do so, a Ford representative had to be present. Not only that, but that Ford rep was responsible for bringing the paint, overseeing the work done, then re-sealing the can and bringing the leftover paint back with them. ...In Patterson’s video, he shows the cost of just 16 ounces...

Ellen DeGeneres has been looking for some new hobbies to take up once her show ends, and Michelle Obama is on hand to help. Obama and DeGeneres surprise a nude model painting class in an “Ellen” skit on Tuesday’s show, with the host telling one person: “You can’t just put a banana where you want to put a banana,” as well as giving out berets and shocking Obama with a horn.

Black Lives Matter Plaza is now a permanent fixture of DC’s streetscape. The mural, painted onto the stretch of 16th Street, Northwest between K and H streets in June 2020, was the site of racial justice protests, which inspired the 48-foot monument. The construction project kicked off in July with a $4.8 million price tag. Pedestrians can now stroll through a walkway that runs down the center of the plaza, sandwiched between traffic lanes on each side of the mural. The mural’s bold yellow words were beginning to fade when the plaza was paved over in May. To make...

I'm looking to repaint a small steel toy. It's nearly 50 years old, and some of the paint separated while in storage and fell off. I'd like to repaint it, and thought of brushed-on model paint as the best solution. However, model paint is usually sold near plastic models. So, the question for model builders: can these paints (like Testor enamel) be used for steel parts, or is there something more suited? Thanks :)

Tony Piloseno even used his wildly successful and viral TikToks as part of a digital marketing pitch to the company to appeal to younger members of Gen Z. An Ohio University senior who worked a part-time job at a local Sherwin-Williams store was fired after the company discovered his popular paint-mixing TikTok channel @tonesterpaints, which currently has over 1.2 million followers. Piloseno told BuzzFeed News he did admit to filming TikToks while he was already mixing paints for customers when he first started posting to his channel in December 2019. But, as his page grew, he committed to purchasing cans...

Mission, Kansas - Kansas City Chiefs fans who file into Arrowhead Stadium Thursday evening for a masked and socially distanced start to the NFL season won't be wearing headdresses or face paint amid a nationwide push for racial justice following the police-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The Chiefs will be taking on the Houston Texans. The move by the reigning Super Bowl champions has pleased Native Americans as a good first step but frustrated some of the 17,000 fans who will be in the stands as the team becomes the first to take the field in front of...

After being arrested on Saturday afternoon for painting over the state-sanctioned Black Lives Matter mural outside Trump Tower in New York City, Bevelyn Beatty and her friends made late night visits to paint over the street lettering in Brooklyn and Harlem. The intensely brave women did not back down when confronted by people who were hostile to their efforts.

My "friend" needs to be able to continuously paint a continuous line, on pavement. This line will be about 8 inches wide and about three hundred feet long. Neatness is NOT a factor. Time is the most important criteria. A couple of questions? About how much blue paint will this require? Does anyone know of or have suggestions on how to paint this line quickly, in less than 10 minutes? Could the paint be practically applied from the bed of a truck? Do inexpensive, easy to use, "line painting" machines exist? Could two or three teams of two people with...

**SNIP** However, the president’s design dreams were potentially undercut across town at Wednesday’s House Armed Services Committee’s markup of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., put forth an amendment that would require congressional approval for changes to the paint scheme and interior design of Air Force One. Although Republicans said it seemed like a poke at the president, Courtney defended it as an economy measure. “Additional paint can add weight to the plane, additional fixtures inside the plane can also add cost and delays to the delivery of the plane,” Courtney said, noting that he...

A board coated in the new polymer paint stays significantly cooler than its surroundings, even in direct sunlight, as seen under ultraviolet lights. (Image courtesy of Columbia University.) ___________________________________________________________________ A team of engineers from Columbia University has created a polymer coating that uses nano-to-microscale air voids to reflect sunlight and cool down buildings. Passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) is a phenomenon where a surface spontaneously cools by reflecting sunlight and radiating heat to a cooler atmosphere. PDRC works best if a surface has high solar reflectance—meaning that most of the sun’s radiation is reflected away—and a high thermal emittance—meaning that...
