Manchester Township, York County — With only eight days until the primary, one York County representative is breaking ranks and stepping outside of the norm, endorsing two candidates running against the establishment. The political move is being called “unprecedented” and “shameful.” “It's unfortunate this day has come, but I can stay silent no longer,” said Representative Mike Jones, (R) 93rd District. Silence has never really been a strong suit for Representative Jones. The York County Republican is throwing his weight behind two challengers, Wendy Jo Fink and Joe D’Orsie, two political newbies. Fink is running against 30-year-veteran Representative Stan Saylor,...

Former congressman and leading Republican gubernatorial candidate Lou Barletta (R-PA) told Breitbart News Saturday that as governor, he will use all powers available to him to stop illegal immigration, noting that many in the GOP do not have the backbone to stand against the radical left’s illegal immigration policies. Recent polls show the Republican primary race as very much a two-man battle between himself and State Sen. Doug Mastriano. But with Democrat Gov. Tom Wolf (D) leaving office, Republicans have a clear chance to flip the governor’s mansion. Recent polls, Barletta said, are a “reflection on what we’re seeing on...

The people of Pennsylvania have spoken and GOP lawmakers say it proves a majority of them thought the governor’s powers needed to be clipped when it comes to emergency disaster declarations. With 73% of precincts reporting and more than 2 million ballots cast, the two constitutional amendments won voter ratification, collecting almost 54% of the vote. One amendment ends a governor’s emergency disaster declaration after 21 days – from the current 90 days which can be renewed indefinitely. And it would be up to the General Assembly to decide whether to extend it. A second gives lawmakers the sole authority...

Pennsylvania voters approved two ballot questions that sought to restrict the emergency powers of the governor, making the state the first in the nation to rein in a governor’s authority under a disaster declaration. At stake was the possible future of the COVID-19 disaster declaration issued by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf on March 6, 2020. Republican House Speaker Bryan Cutler of Lancaster County and Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff of Centre County, in a written statement, said voters “resoundingly reaffirmed their desire for a government with strong checks and balances that works in their interests and not for its own power.”...

The Fayette County Bureau of Elections confirmed the reports of precincts across the county rendered unable to scan ballots.

When Pennsylvania voters head to the polls on Tuesday, May 18, for the primary election, they will find three questions on the ballot regarding amendments to the state Constitution and one referendum. The first two constitutional questions deal with disaster emergency declarations while the third addresses racial equality. Why Are These Questions Important? For more than a year, Pennsylvania has been operating under two long-term disaster emergency declarations imposed by Gov. Tom Wolf. One...

Four candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America won primary races Tuesday night for Pennsylvania’s legislature, sparking supporters to declare the movement is on the rise. “What we did … tonight across the state is a HUGE deal,” the group’s Pittsburgh chapter tweeted. “The establishment's scared.” All four winners were female candidates running as Democrats for state House seats, including two from the Pittsburgh area, Summer Lee and Sara Innamorato. Lee and Innamorato defeated incumbent Democrats in the heavily Democratic districts southeast and north of Pittsburgh, respectively, and are running unopposed by Republicans in the November elections. The democratic-socialist...

A headline in The Hill captures a significant moment in American history: "Four socialist-backed candidates win Pennsylvania legislative primaries." The Democratic Socialists of America supported all four candidates, who will almost certainly win in November, given their lack of GOP opponents. The DSA itself thinks socialism's time has come: The DSA hailed the legislative victories as a huge moment for the socialist movement. Arielle Cohen, co-chair of the Pittsburgh DSA chapter, told HuffPost that she feels a "monumental shift" after the victories, noting DSA's growing membership since President Trump's election. "We won on popular demands that were deemed impossible.  We won on health care for...
