Minister, theologian, speaker, and author John Piper “came out against gay marriage during a sermon Sunday but did not explicitly urge members of his Minneapolis church to vote for the amendment. Leith Anderson, President of the National Association of Evangelicals and who served as senior pastor of Wooddale Church, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, from 1977 to 2011 “also said this week he does not plan to take a public side on the amendment, which would change the state Constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.” Religious observers say the lack of formal backing from...

When did the media become a bunch of girly men? The latest dispatch from Sarah Palin’s Magical Mystery Tour reveals that our tough media are a bunch of pansies who get the vapors when a bus goes ten miles over the speed limit. Politico recently reported that Sarah Palin’s bus is “a rolling menace.” The evidence? Palin’s bus went 52 mph in a 35 mph zone. That’s, um, 17 mph over the limit. Also, they “flew right past a flashing sign informing them they were going 45 mph in a 35 mph zone.” They also ran a couple red lights...

Sarah Palin's East Coast tour may be a dry run for her potential presidential campaign, but the real star of the show this week has been the former governor's 10-year-old daughter, Piper. The youngest Palin daughter, sporting an impressive collection of oversize sunglasses, has been at her mom's side all this week during the ex-governor's tour of historical sites—sometimes playing tourist, other times perfecting the fine art of giving the stink eye to reporters. Piper has even seemed to play the role of her mom's bodyguard, physically blocking a reporter who tried to talk to the ex-governor during a visit...

Here's something that might explain why Piper Palin felt compelled to shove her tiny 9-year-old body into a reporter in Philadelphia yesterday: TIME correspondent Jay Newton-Small and photographer Dima Gavrysh followed Sarah Palin’s bus tour of historic sites up the eastern seaboard nearly 400 miles from Washington DC to New York City via Gettysburg and Philadelphia .... Her daughter Piper, however, didn’t appreciate all the media attention. “Thanks for ruining our vacation,” she said to our photographer. Thanks for ruining our vacation? Oh no. Nobody told her. She doesn't realize that this is all just a publicity stunt specifically designed...

There are cultural forces at work inside and outside the church that make me eager to defend my Father’s wrath against me before I was adopted. He does not need my defense. But I believe he would be honored by it. And he commanded us, “Honor your father” (Exodus 20:12). I write this from Cambridge, England, and my indignation about the assault on my Father is British-born. The calumny I have in mind is the following paragraph from a popular British writer: The fact is that the cross isn’t a form of cosmic child abuse—a vengeful Father, punishing his Son...

Sarah Palin is the ultimate "American Idol" politician. Plucked from relative obscurity by the McCain campaign, quickly costumed, coached and handed a set list created to play to her strengths, she leapfrogged over the traditional trajectory of a political career directly onto center stage where some viewers/voters loved her and many others didn't. So although it is unprecedented, it is not surprising that, in the aftermath of her unsuccessful vice presidential bid, Palin would quit her actual political job — governor of Alaska — to pursue a career in television, first as a commentator for Fox News and now...

This is some of the most Biblical God honoring passionate moving language that I have ever heard from a preacher of His Word... and I catch just a glimpse of not only God's glory but our place in it... delighting in the glory of God... and working to produce that joy in others.

Bill Millin, who died on August 17 aged 88, was personal piper to Lord Lovat on D-Day and piped the invasion forces on to the shores of France; unarmed apart from the ceremonial dagger in his stocking, he played unflinchingly as men fell all around him.

I don’t know what you feel about the prosperty gospel; the health, wealth, and prosperity gospel. But I’ll tell you what I feel about it; hatred. It is not the gospel. It is being exported from this country to Africa and Asia. Selling a bill of goods to the poorest of the poor, “Believe this message, your pigs won’t die. Your wife won’t have miscarriages. You’ll have rings on your fingers and coats on your back.” That’s comin’ out of America! The people that out to be giving our money and our time and our lives, instead selling them a...

WASILLA — Piper Palin missed most of her classes last week, but it’s OK. She brought notes. The 8-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, along with 15-year-old sister Willow, joined the former Alaska governor in taping some interviews leading up to today’s release of Palin’s book, “Going Rogue: An American Life.” Perhaps the third-grader wanted more pull than just a note from a former governor and vice presidential candidate. So, after sitting in the front row while her mother was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in Chicago on Wednesday, Piper asked the talk show host for a note excusing her from class,...

Politico is apparently hatching up some story about "wounded" McCain staffers who were Palin "loyalists" and are upset by her innocent joke about praying with her seven-year-old daughter before the vice presidential debate. I don't buy it myself. No one with half a brain would be offended by that cute little anecdote from Palin's Lincoln Day speech -- certainly not a self-proclaimed Palin "loyalist." In fact, I predict that next week Jim Geraghty will call up Randy Scheunemann and Steve Biegun and get them on the record saying that they don't feel slighted in the least. (And those are the...

(h/t Jody) As you know, Gov. Palin gave a speech last night at the Lincoln Dinner in Anchorage. We're still waiting for some audio or video of the speech, but we do have some "field reporting" from two people who attended the dinner. We got a play by play from "jasonthealaskan" who twittered the speech (until his phone died). Jason now has a blog post up about the dinner. He recounts a great joke from the governor's speech: The dinner was catered by the Hilton Hotel, they were serving pork. She said, and this was pretty funny, "I've just passed...

January 17, 2009 | By: John PiperCategory: Commentary At Barack Obama’s request, tomorrow in the Lincoln Memorial, Gene Robinson, the first openly non-celibate homosexual bishop in the Episcopal Church, will deliver the invocation for the inauguration kick-off. This is tragic not mainly because Obama is willing to hold up the legitimacy of homosexual intercourse, but because he is willing to get behind the church endorsement of sexual intercourse between men. It is one thing to say: Two men may legally have sex. It is another to say: The Christian church acted acceptably in blessing Robinson’s sex with men. The implications...

"Obama bad?": An UrbanMinistry.org Blogger's View on Our New President Submitted by GabriellaMartay on Sun, 01/18/2009 - 23:25. Whether or not you like Obama, I stumbled upon this article by a great pastor, John Piper. In it, Piper is talking about Obama making Christ a minister of Condemnation. It is a fascinating arguement. Read- "At Barack Obama’s request, tomorrow in the Lincoln Memorial, Gene Robinson, the first openly non-celibate homosexual bishop in the Episcopal Church, will deliver the invocation for the inauguration kick-off.
