Got over a three week battle with what my doctor thought was COVID. At the end of the three weeks, I was huffing and puffing after walking up a flight of stairs despite walking four miles a day regularly. I started having what I thought were leg cramps and it turned out that I have a blood clot after seeing the doctor. Yes, I had three vaccinations when they became available and no more. The doctor doesn't think its associated with my recent bout since I wasn't tested. My question is they put me on Eliquis which is a couple...

Pharmacies across the United States are reporting that they are having difficulty getting prescriptions to patients because of a cyberattack on a unit of UnitedHealth. The company said in a regulatory filing Thursday its Change Healthcare business, which processes prescriptions to insurance for tens of thousands of pharmacies nationwide, was compromised by hackers who gained access to some of its systems. The company became aware of the cyberattack Wednesday, and, in a separate statement, said it expected the attack to last at least throughout the day Thursday. The cyberattack prevented some pharmacies from processing prescriptions to insurance companies to receive...

FDA’s decision could change the way Americans obtain prescription medicinesThe Food and Drug Administration has decided to allow the first state to import drugs from Canada, a milestone in efforts to reduce the cost of medicines that could change the way Americans fill prescriptions. The agency said Friday it would allow Florida to import prescription drugs from Canada. Several other states have filed similar requests with the agency. The approval opens the door to a new, lower-cost source of prescription drugs, beyond the retail and mail-order pharmacies—and the U.S. supply chain they are part of—that Americans have relied on for...

I need some advice. I am 67 years old and in a little over a Month I will be having my right shoulder replaced. I am actively enrolled in Medical-Care for health care, but not in any prescription policies. However, I need to figure out which prescription policy would be best for me before I have the surgery. As of right now I have no current prescriptions for anything. Until I began having shoulder problems I have not even seen a general practitioner for over 10 years. Other than my shoulder problem I am healthy as an ox, or at...

Melissa Bond was caring for two infant children — a newborn, and a year-old toddler with Down syndrome. It was 2009, and she had recently lost her magazine job. Her marriage was disintegrating, and she spent night after night pacing her house in Salt Lake City, watching the hours tick by. When a physician gave her a prescription for Ativan — a “strong, fast-acting sedative hypnotic” that he guaranteed would help her get some shut-eye — she accepted it, no questions asked. “I was in such a state of desperation that I didn’t research the drugs,” Bond, now 53, told...

Physicians have ‘especially broad discretion’ decision to prescribe ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19, state Attorney General Alan Wilson affirmed. COLUMBIA, South Carolina (LifeSiteNews) – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson joined a growing number of state officials affirming that doctors have broad authority to prescribe ivermectin and other “off-label” treatments for COVID-19.In an opinion earlier this month, Wilson said that South Carolina law does not prohibit medical professionals from treating COVID with drugs, such as ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine, that have been approved for other uses.“It is clear that an attending physician possesses especially broad discretion to prescribe what he or...

(The Center Square) – Doctors would be able to prescribe ivermectin to patients with COVID-19 if a bill advanced by the South Dakota Health and Human Services Committee becomes law. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved ivermectin for treating the virus in humans or animals. The drug is approved "for human use to treat infections caused by some parasitic worms and head lice and skin conditions like rosacea," according to the FDA. The drug is mainly used to treat horses and cattle with parasitic worms. But some have touted the drug as an effective treatment for COVID-19....
  • Supply Shortage of Legitimate Prescriptions (vanity)

I've been advised to hold back one pill from each prescription refill in case of future supply disruption. This is particularly important because I have epilepsy. Is this "hoarding" legal? And is there a maximum number of pills that is legally safe to keep (for instance--accumulate one extra week of pills, accumulate one extra month of pills, etc.)? For the record--Internet searches haven't answered my question. Thank you a great deal for any information!

In another recall over cancer-causing impurity levels, Lupin Pharmaceutical has recalled several batches of its Irbesartan tablets and Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets because N-nitrosoirbesartan – a substance that causes cancer - was found in levels above allowable specification limits. The drugmaker received four reports of illness from Irbesartan and zero reports from the Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide medication from the dates of Oct. 8, 2018 to Sept. 20, 2021. However, Lupin said that it has received no reports of illness that appear related to the recall issue but is recalling the medication “out of an abundance of caution.” The company is...

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the off-label use of the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19. There have been reports of calls to poison control after some Americans used a variation of over-the-counter horse de-wormer to treat themselves. Others have gotten a prescription of the drug for humans through their doctor. But that appears to be on hold in Louisiana. The Louisiana Department of Health is ordering pharmacies not to fill those prescriptions unless there is a confirmed diagnosis of parasites, according to one source who spoke to me on condition of anonymity. Some health professionals have...

You have to give them a current photo and a photo of your driver’s license plus cc info. I got a call on Thursday August 12 at 4:30pm from Tampa FL. I had an interview with a lady but I don’t think she was a doctor. I did ask for HCQ too but she did not respond. resident Biden recently unveiled a new executive order on “Promoting Competition” in the U.S. economy. Though the executive order is purported to ‘up our game’ – its health care recommendations plainly drop the ball. If Biden’s agenda is enacted as articulated, it would put American medical innovation at enormous competitive disadvantage – and carry especially devastating consequences for our most vulnerable populations, including seniors. Biden’s EO states, "It is also the policy of my Administration to support aggressive legislative reforms that would lower prescription drug prices, including by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices..." First, the idea that Medicare plans...

Some doctors are writing prescriptions for a drug that may help treat coronavirus for their family and friends, one pharmacist said, calling their actions "unethical and selfish." Hydroxychloroquine has not been clinically proven to be safe or successful in treating coronavirus, and yet the increased demand for it is making it harder for people who need it to control their chronic diseases to get it. Hydroxychloroquine is a less toxic derivative of chloroquine, an anti-malaria drug. It often treats autoimmune diseases, such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, and is sold under the brand name, Plaquenil. Recent data show chloroquine orders...
