ALT LAKE CITY — Police have released dash-cam footage in a chase on I-15 last week that led police through Salt Lake County. The chase started at about 12:50 p.m. on I-15 near 12300 South. Dash-cam footage shows a woman driving a black Volvo passing a Utah Highway Patrol trooper in the emergency lane. The woman, identified as Lisa Anne Sovereen, 44, refused to pull over as speeds reached 80 mph. Sovereen called 911 and asked the dispatcher "that the trooper get off her back," according to UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson. She said she believed the trooper would try to...

OK, OK, enough already. I get that American Atheists Inc. has every right to wield its beliefs - publicly and loudly - against all things suggesting that God is in his universe. Atheists serve a useful purpose in this country. They are the burr under the saddle of this predominantly Christian nation. They are like the kid in class who won't sit quietly and join in while everyone else is practicing perfect penmanship. When atheists poke and prod at none-too-subtle efforts to co-mingle church and state, they help shake up the 80 percent of Christians in this nation and nudge...

Family members of fallen Utah Highway Patrol troopers are fighting to keep some memorial crosses in place on state property in tribute of the late officers. At a rally Saturday, relatives showed up in opposition to a lawsuit filed by American Atheists Inc., which wants the crosses removed because of their religious theme. The atheist group filed the lawsuit against the UHP and the Utah Department of Transportation. Lt. Lee Perry said the crosses were erected near highways and chosen as a symbol that was easily identifiable with death and sacrifice. ``We wanted to remind people that the price we...
