Anyone old enough to remember using Windows 98 when it was still current can attest to the fact that it was a really fantastic operating system. It made big improvements over Windows 95 in almost every area that mattered, and at the time it actually looked extremely sleek and clean. Today, of course, it’s absolutely ancient, but one brave man took it upon himself to see if it’s still possible to use a Windows 98 system as your primary computer today, and the results are actually quite astounding.

Due to a round of upgrades, I have an 18 GB SCSI drive that I can install in an old dual processor Pentium Pro computer that currently has Windows 2000 installed. I now use this computer only for reading old obsolete media and archiving it to newer formats and sometimes for surfing the web. I would like to be able to set up the recycled hard drive in order boot from DOS, Windows 98, and Windows 2000 partitions. Excerpt - Microsoft again warned today that customers face security risks if they use some of its ageing operating systems after it ends support for them next month. The systems affected are Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows Millennium Edition. Running Outlook Express e-mail under Win 98, I accidentally clicked on folder A and folder B, right below A in the list, at the same time. Another click on A actually seems to have deleted the entire folder. Any suggestions as to how to recover folder A and its contents will be very much appreciated, and TIA to all ! There are two new Windows 98 security updates available. You can find them at this address (direct Link to Microsoft website).They are quick updates and do not require you to start your computer. If you are using Windows 98, best to get them.Also, if you are using the old version of Ad Aware by Lavasoft, you should get the second edition. It picks up a whole lot of spyware the first edition does not catch and even updates on first edition will not do it.

I need help from some of you computer-internet wizards out there. I recently downloaded all of the updates on microsoft.com for my windows 98 operating systems on BOTH of my computers, and now when I am on the internet, my scroll bar does not scroll down to where I left off reading. It skips a whole page and stops there. This is VERY distracting and I cannot get used to putting the pointer only a little way down, surfing is no fun anymore. When on Free Republic, I right click all links that I want to read, and select "open in new window". The link opens up in a "small window", requiring me an extra click (maximize) to view the window "full size". How do I set explorer to open all new windows full size? Note: Not full screen.
