"This was a powerful blast - More info to come on what sort of impact we should expect here on earth! This marks the 4th X-flare since May 3rd (X1.6, X1.2, X1.2, X4.5), making AR3663 the most active sunspot of Solar Cycle 25 so far."

The solar flare is the most powerful eruption from sunspot region R3654 yet. Last night (April 30), the sun released an extremely powerful solar flare triggering widespread radio blackouts across the Pacific region. The flare peaked at 7:46 p.m. EDT (2346 GMT) and ended shortly after at 7:58 p.m. EDT (2358). Solar flares are eruptions from the sun's surface that emit intense bursts of electromagnetic radiation. They are created when magnetic energy builds up in the solar atmosphere and is released. Solar flares are categorized by size into lettered groups, with X-class being the most powerful. Then there are M-class...

Just had the largest X-ray Flare in history while the biggest Hurricane in history is in the Atlantic. CME from previous X-5 Flare is going to hit Earth tonight around 5-6 PM EDT. The initial estimate of the arrival of the X-10 Flare is 6-7 AM EDT on 8 September 2017. This could be a repeat of the 1859 Carrington Event. We could be doing Irma without electronics or electricity.
  • Deadly stars: Our sun could also be superflare star

Earth is often struck by solar eruptions. These eruptions consist of energetic particles that are hurled away from the Sun into space, where those directed towards Earth encounter the magnetic field around our planet. When these eruptions interact with Earth's magnetic field they cause beautiful auroras. A poetic phenomenon that reminds us, that our closest star is an unpredictable neighbor. When the Sun pours out gigantic amounts of hot plasma during the large solar eruptions, it may have severe consequences on Earth. Solar eruptions are, however, nothing compared to the eruption we see on other stars, the so-called 'superflares'. Superflares...
  • What is a superflare? Researchers explain 'devastating consequences' of an eruption from the Sun

An international research team has published a study discussing the possibility and consequences of a 'superflare' erupting from our parent star If a superflare erupted from the Sun , experts have predicted it will have a "devastating" effect on the Earth. It could break down radio communication, damage power supplies across the planet and threaten the stability of our atmosphere. And, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Communications , the possibility is not as far-fetched as scientists first thought. "We certainly did not expect to find superflare stars with magnetic fields as weak as the magnetic...
  • Scientists: 'Extreme' Solar Storm Heading to Earth

Scientists say an extreme solar flare is blasting its way to Earth and could mess up some power grids, satellites and radio transmissions. Forecasters at the Space Weather Prediction Center don't yet know when Wednesday's solar storm will arrive here and which part of the planet will be facing the sun and bear the brunt of the effects. It could be as early as Thursday morning to a few days.

RADIATION STORM:A radiation storm is underway. Based on the energy and number of solar protons streaming past Earth, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)ranks the storm as category S3 (Strong): satellites may experience single-event upsets and astronauts should practice "radiation avoidance." The rush of protons may be a sign of an approaching CME (coronal mass ejection). Protons are accelerated in shock waves at the leading-edge of CMEs, so when the proton count rises, we can guess that a CME is en route. Northern sky watchers should remain alert for auroras, which could flare up if and when a CME arrives....
