I highly recommend it. Saw it on the History Channel, and then bought it on DVD.

Very, very good.

And for once, as a Brit you may care to know, Mel doesn't make the English out to be the bad guys (of course their are no English in the film, but...).

Great film. The man Mel Gibson portrays in the film was a consultant on the flick.

I highly recommend it.

Awesome movie. You might also be interested in knowing that part of the soundtrack is a song called Sgt. McKenzie. It's about a soldier from Scotland.

Joseph Kilna McKenzie - Sgt. McKenzie

Original Scottish Version

Lay me doon in the caul caul groon
Whaur afore monie mair huv gaun
Lay me doon in the caul caul groon
Whaur afore monie mair huv gaun

When they come a wull staun ma groon
Staun ma groon al nae be afraid

Thoughts awe hame tak awa ma fear
Sweat an bluid hide ma veil awe tears

Ains a year say a prayer faur me
Close yir een an remember me

Nair mair shall a see the sun
For a fell tae a Germans gun

Lay me doon in the caul caul groon
Whaur afore monie mair huv gaun

Lay me doon in the caul caul groon
Whaur afore monie mair huv gaun

Whaur afore monie mair huv gaun

English Translation

Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone

When they come I will stand my ground
Stand my ground I'll not be afraid

Thoughts of home take away my fear
Sweat and blood hide my veil of tears

Once a year say a prayer for me
Close your eyes and remember me

Never more shall I see the sun
For I fell to a Germans gun

Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone

Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone

Where before many more have gone

In memory of Sgt. Charles Stuart MacKenzie
Seaforth Highlanders
Who along with many others gave up his life
So that we can live free
We will remember them

Tremendous film. The music is stellar. I believe one of the pieces was played at Pres. Reagan's funeral.

It's not a "fun" film, just so you know.

It is heartwrenching when it shows the new widows recieving word of the demise of their husbands.

My girlfriend's father was decorated as a pilot for flying resupply and replacements into that battle and medevacing wounded out several times during the most intense parts of the battle. He kept going back until his Huey was too shot up to fly anymore.

Alright, I'll be the party pooper. I found the movie disappointing. Cardboardy characters, silly looking special effects. If Full Metal Jacket was an A, this movie was about a C.

Full metal jacket was built around somebody's anti war fantasy. We were soldiers is a true story.

Yes it's a true story, but it's a true story with cardboardy characters and silly looking special effects. The two movies just don't compare in terms of quality.

The only true-to-form performance in Full Metal Jacket was that of R. Lee Ermey (Gunny Sgt. Hartman). According to the movie's website, he didn't rehearse or learn any lines, it was a complete natural performance.

Must see.

Then read the book.

Riveting on both accounts.

I liked Full metal jacket but the constant hammering away with the anti war theme gets tiresome after awhile. I did like "Animal mother" even though the actor is a true leftist
