"Before I left for Iraq, I watched with regret as the House of Representatives voted to deny our troops the support necessary to carry out their new mission. Democratic leaders smiled and cheered as the last votes were counted. What were they celebrating? Defeat? Surrender? In Iraq, only our enemies were cheering. A defeat for the United States is a cause for mourning not celebrating."

.....

"Our defeat in Iraq would constitute a defeat in the war against terror and extremism and would make the world a much more dangerous place. The enemies we face there harbor the same depraved indifference to human life as those who killed three thousand innocent Americans on a September morning in 2001. A couple of days before I arrived in Baghdad, a suicide car bomb destroyed a large, busy marketplace. It was a bit unusual, because new U.S. and Iraqi security measures in Baghdad have reduced the number of car bomb attacks. But this time the terrorists had a new tactic: they drove their car to a security checkpoint and were waved through because there were two small children in the back seat. The terrorists then walked away from the car, leaving the children inside it, and triggered the explosion. If the terrorists are willing to do this terrible thing to Iraqi children, what are they willing to do to our children? "

I know his final voting pattern. As I’ve said, he more often votes conservative, despite his very public anti-conservative words played out in the press.

Because he is a “maverick”, every thing he ever says against conservatives gets played until the cows come home. And McCain does nothing to curb this.

Also, he plays both sides, constantly changing his positions, to evoke sympathy from liberals and conservatives. This also gets media attention.

In the end, it really just makes for one scary, inconsistent politician who appears to be a grand manipulator.

At least McCain has found a niche of people who seemingly love a lack of consistency on any and all stated positions.

Nice speech, but still lacking in a crucial element: NAMES.

I’m sick of ‘pubbies saying “some say”, “democrats in Washington”, “there are those that believe”, etc.

EVERY DAY the demonrats are calling out the names of republicans that they choose to vilify. Those names get repeated by the MSM and branded into the mind of Americans. Republicans need to stop pulling punches and start NAMING NAMES.

Let the traitors be exposed by name so that Americans might associate them with defeat.

McCain speaks the truth and the Democrats look like fools again. The Democrats have never supported our military. This is one of many reasons we need to do everything we can to defeat them in the next election.

It was a good speech.

Too bad McStain still sucks.

But out of party loyalty, I will vote for him in the general election if he squeaks past us in the primaries.

I won't vote for the leftwing mayor under any condition. Although I liked Romney, he's been waffling a bit on the Second and seems confused about its purpose. So I like him personally but he's been edging closer to the unvotable category I've put Ghouliani into. Still, Romney isn't a complete political leper like the Rudester is.

By the way, the ACU only gave McCain a 65% conservative rating for all of last year.

That not considered a conservative in most circles.

Nice that you left his more recent numbers out, jveritas.

Good speech but he’s still a RINO. IMO

If you have two RINO's over there in Texas you would like to trade for Boxer and Feinstein I will gladly accept the trade.

I gave you his overall life long conservative rating. You lied by saying that McCain has 85% liberal position, all the facts prove you a liar.

at first Reid literally had his mouth hung open in shock that the Rats finally got called on their treasonous acts and then he finally responded with,”McCain should ask the Pope how bad Iraq is”.

I caught that too. What a confused and bitter man Reid is. First he said he wouldn't dump on Mc Stain then he made a screed against him, topping it off with that bizarre statement about the pope.

Who knew a Mormon would worry so much over the opinions of the Bishop of Rome?

I think his lifetime ACU rating is more relevant. Since, I do not have Michael Barone’s recent Almanac, perhaps others can give us those numbers.

I recall that Bob Dole posted a 90+ ACU rating the year before he ran for the nomination. However, this did not reflect his great appreciation for raising taxes in other years. Was it Newt who called him “The chief tax collector for the welfare state)?

jveritas, in the media, it is his liberal leanings that get him the vast majority of his press. And yes, I would continue to estimate this at 85% of what everyone hears from or about John McCain.

However, as I also stated before, he votes more often conservative than liberal.

I am not lying; however, you are not telling the whole truth.

I don’t care. Nothing McCain says has any credibility any more. He is a dollar short and a day late. He should have been put out to pasture ten years ago.

I care. It's about time someone, anyone, stands up and speaks out against what the Democrats are doing. I can look past my personal views about McCain and applaud the fact that he said in that speech what needed to be said. You said, "Nothing McCain says has any credibility any more". Well, Lord help us, I sure hope others will read his speech and see that the message in it IS CREDIBLE. I'd be my old military mom Army boots that military men and women who read that speech, no matter who gave it, would agree with it and hope others will too.

I traded my Feinstein and Boxer for these two RINO’s so I’ve headed in the right direction. ;o) Plenty of property still available here, so come on! we moved from So. Cal (OC) back in Sept.

For all of our differences with him, McCain is a true Patriot, and always has been. Those who can’t see that are blind.

Well said, dinoparty.

Good move! Texas is at the top of my list. The best we can hope for in CA. is a good tsunami. Once the liberals relocate we can take this state back.
