Some guitarists were using wawa type effects in the fifties. Distortion was first used in the fifties too. Lots of stuff people think were first done by rock guitarists in the 60s were done decades earlier.

Funny thing is, for a 1960s chauvinist which I am, I started out as a really young fan of big bands while others were liking rock. At age 7-18 I listened to Glenn Miller, Sy Zentner,Stan Kenton and others instead of the Beach Boys,et al as my peers. The heyday was ending but I got to see several in person at a touring shopping mall tour series of concerts. Then I switched to rock.

Also, I have 99% of the Al Jolson recordings and love them even though I was 20-30 years too young for that.

Most kids, I believe, stick to a narrow range compared with me. I am still a 1960s fan, though.

You are correct I even thought of a particular sound on a Bo Diddley song including deliberate feedback as I wrote that.

Believe it or not there was a Kerry gold thread a while back.

Now my asthma can be controlled through proactive medication. Forty years ago, it could not. Life for me is better now.

That was #3 on the list, BTW. Better medical treatment

Well as I sat in three hours of unmoving traffic on a mountain, that twenty years ago I would have breezed down, trying to get home- I can’t think of much that can cancel out how much the overcrowding has destroyed our quality of life.

In big ways, life is much better for me now, but I still have nostalgia for childhood too, like we all do.

That must have been so weird. What can you do but pretend you forgot? At least she never “got” you - that wouldn’t have been very pleasant at fam reunions. I wonder if she did find some young boy, or if that somehow was a one off.

I waited too long (like forever) to try and find what happened to my abuser and one day 7 or so years ago my best friend sent me the article of him being busted with many counts, multiple kids, as young as 3. I felt horrible for keeping quiet. He ended with a tiny plea and a wrist slap and I’m still behind the scenes trying to help some attorneys bust him for the rest of his crimes. With nothing personal to gain for me, just justice.

I guess in my situation, it was my inaction that escalated things. If I had asked her to stop massaging my back or gotten up and done something else, that probably would have ended things right there. Then I took the brandy she offered. There were other signs she probably gave me that I didn’t read. So she was probably thinking all along I was a willing partner and going with the flow of things and not realizing I was just a very naive kid who thought she was just being “motherly.” Anyhow, it was a one-off situation and I checked it off to experience. Maybe it’s different with boys but I never considered for a minute reporting it to anybody. Also, remember, there was a bit of a culture back then where it was somewhat permissible for older women to seduce young boys. The movie “Summer of ‘42” comes to mind.
