Sad indeed. Cheney is an easy target. Lake slaps her around pretty good though. 👍

Iraq invasion and getting rid of Saddam was fine.

After 911 there was no way not to make sure they didn’t have nukes or were working on ways to nuke the US.

That took five minutes.

It was the nonsense of the subsequent years that can be criticized. Same for Afghanistan

Agree 100%. Actually there was known evidence of WMD in Iraq, both nuclear and biological. The UN inventoried substantial amounts of anthrax solution, and Iraq is known to have weaponized it.

SHOULD we have invaded Iraq? That is a policy question, and we elect officials to make those decisions. In this case, GWB may have been influenced by his father, and an Iraqi intent to assassinate him.

All that said, at this moment in time we should be out of Iraq and Afghanistan completely. We surely have not profited from our involvement there - China has, sadly!

Mostly in agreement but with some different perspective.

The WMD argument was never about nukes. The Israelis took care of that problem in 1981 when they bombed saddams nuke plant while it was under construction outside Baghdad. There was a weak argument that saddam had yellow cake to sell.

The WMD argument was all about chemical and biological. To my knowledge we never found bio but I could be wrong. Chemical weapons were a known fact all the way back to the Iraq Iran wars. Those stores mostly got carted off to Syria just prior to start of OIF. But some were also probably destroyed by allied bombardment.

The other factors were saddams 10 years of violating the letter and intent of the 91 gulf war cease fire agreement. It was a war never concluded and, afte 911, was pretty much all that was needed to justify ‘ending it’.

As you noted, our problem is really in the clean up after ‘winning’ the war. We should not be in the business of nation building, especially when the culture is not attuned to our morales and western thinking. Islam is backwards in so many ways and too many in that cult don’t want to come out of the dark ages.

The Iraq War was based on lies. Bush and Cheney should be indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The role reversals have been amazing. Republicans are the antiwar party, and Democrats worship at the altar of the Pentagon and worshipfully salivate over CIA warmongers on TV.

Correct. Any countless thousands now have physical and/or mental injuries. Cheney & Shrub should both be in prison.

There are still loads of war lovers & seekers on this site, unfortunately. Most of them are okay with us needlessly dying in a nuclear war.

MT Greene responds to Liz Cheney: “Your father lied our country into a war with Iraq. Over $3,000,000,000,000 in taxpayer funds were wasted. And tragically over 4,500 American soldiers never came home.”

NEOCONS must be all atwitter, sipping chilled Krystal with room temperature Brie at the Four Seasons, paid with Búsh issued govt credit cards.

The war profiteering was so immense, neocon godfather Richard Pearl financed his own oil company.

They never explained what happened to the WMDs at the time.

They did but it never got much coverage.

Agreed. The leftists in charge of this country use war to effectively murder their own people. They put us in wars that have no purpose.

The role reversals have been amazing. Republicans are the antiwar party, and Democrats worship at the altar of the Pentagon and worshipfully salivate over CIA warmongers on TV.

It goes even deeper than that. The Republicans (MAGA) have become the party of the working class and the common man while the Democrats have become the party of wealthy elites who wish to lord it over the rabble.

Republicans question the establishment. Democrats are the establishment. Republicans champion free speech and Democrats want to shut it down and cancel or jail anybody that speaks out.

I can go on and on but what a role reversal from 50 years ago.

Harsh ... but 100% true. If the crop of newcomers in the House are like her, Boebert, and Gaetz, there might be hope for America.

All that is true. I was talking of the role reversal from even 15 years ago re: war.

“ Iraq invasion and getting rid of Saddam was fine.”

Except the enemies were Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

“It’s always been obvious to me she is protecting her father somehow
Nothing else explains it.”

That has a ring to it that could be taken as noble in some way, i.e., family loyalty. But I think it’s all about the money that she and her lesbo sister will inherit when Daddy dies. No doubt he’s still raking in some filthy lucre from Halliburton. Cha-CHING!

GOP sold out decades ago. Most favored trade for China, Nafta, gatt, etc. There is no going back. There is no support for the middle class on either party. They run up the debt and spending to destroy the future.

As for Iraq, how many FReepers were purged post 9/11 for having similar thoughts as mtg. A legion. There is no going back.
