It seems we are on the same side and we both want Russia to stop attacking those people and leave their country in peace.
The Russian artillery is zeroed in on their mine field. When the Ukrainians get stopped or slowed down in the mine field, they are destroyed by the artillery.
Their only hope is to get through the mine field quickly. Having the soldiers getting out of the armor and probing the mine field by hand will not work.
Apparently they don’t have the equipment they need to be successful. If their strategy didn’t work for the last month, it is not going to work tommorow.

The author of this has no idea how combined arms works.
Tanks are 1000m back, hull-down, firing on the enemy covering troops. Infantry is at the edge of the woods, dismounted, positioned to advance when the lanes are clear. Arty is 5km back, dropping rounds on the enemy position and smoke on the minefield.
And the sappers are on their bellies, crawling through the minefield with probes and wire cutters.
Getting all of this in position, ready to go on command, is difficult. Truth is you position the support force, the assault force, the forward observers, and assign the arty, then have them sit and do nothing while the breach force starts the clearing operation.
The more of the obstacle the breach force can clear before the enemy notices the better. But once they do, the arty needs to drop smoke and the support force open up suppressive fire immediately.
The most difficult part of this is keeping overaggressive maneuver commanders from pulling the trigger prematurely.
“Haste is not speed” is not a lesson all tank commanders have learned.
The next is keeping the support force and especially the assault force ready to move quickly once the trigger is pulled. It’s hard to maintain a readiness to attack when waiting for what may be hours.
But as for the article - if Ukraine isn’t sending tanks into minefields anymore, good. That’s not their role.
If the Ukrainians choose to submit to Russia’s bloody invasion and cease forever to be a nation then they will.
Russia’s invasion is a modern horror but you don’t need to lash out with such bizarre and nasty personal attacks on people at FR.
It’s called MOS 12B, and it’s a fundamental part of their job.
Explosive mine clearing rockets, vehicle mounted anti-mine rollers and plows, etc., are fast and flashy, but easily spotted.
Sappers on their bellies are slower, but a lot of the time they can get their job done without being noticed.
