It's interesting how before the invasion of Iraq, no one opposed the Iraqi police and military knowing they would be crushed, yet now they are struggling. Of course it's a different military now, but the Iraqis are quite capable. The problem is that the militia don't fear them because they know the new army has been "civilized." Saddam would have not only killed the insurgents, but also their families, friends, and anyone who met them. The last thing anyone wants is another Saddam, but I suspect sometime after we leave, the Iraqi military/police may again put the fear of Allah into the radical militias. That's probably a good thing considering the region.
