How horrible! I’ll bet the sound of that explosion is in your head right now. You don’t forget something that awful.

not all employees perished - my wife decidedly to go to Century 21 that morning across the street instead of showing up for work on time.

that saved her life

I posted on FR around that time.

Basically said the President should announce that we were on a WWII footing and declare all out war on any and all Muslim nations.

Then begin a military build up the likes of which we have never seen. At the same time begin using nuclear weapons on every Muslim country which did not totally surrender.

Of course they would never do that but it would have worked.

That was the worse day of my life. My daughter worked in the North Tower. I did not know that she survived until almost noon. Since we lived in NJ, I spent the rest of that day (and others) grieving for the parents and other relatives searching for their loved ones. Even now, when I relive it, it hurts to my deepest core.

They were OK but it was a rough couple of hours.

I was speaking with my Mom on the phone and had the TV on. Initially, thought it was an accident. Then, we saw the second plane hit. It felt like it was a dream (nightmare). I seriously did not believe it at first. I remember just crying and pacing. I called the school where my son was, and they said anyone wanting to come get their child could. I chose to let him stay. I walked out to the front of the house. I saw almost all of the neighbors outside. We all looked perplexed, not knowing what was happening. Everyone was crying and hugging one another. I wanted to wake up. I still cannot believe it. We did not know what was going on or what else might happen.
I remember that school pictures were the next day. My son insisted we find something patriotic to wear. He found a flag applique and a red shirt. I love that photo.
I realized today that there is a generation of young people who don’t remember, and that breaks my heart.

I was tossing and turning in bed when the SHTF in NYC, unable to go to sleep that morning. Finally dropped off to sleep and was awakened by Hubby less than an hour later. He'd heard the news on the radio and had come to the house to see what was on TV about it.

As I woke up, all I really heard was something about "at war" and I thought the cats were on some sort of rampage in the house. I stormed out here to yell at them and was surprised they were all just lying around, relaxed. Then Hubby said, "No, not the cats. THAT! I think we're at war!" and pointed to the TV. I was horrified at the sight of the towers engulfed in smoke and flames.

We watched the news for a few hours as the events unfolded, then decided we should prep in case there were more attacks and we'd have to hunker down for a while. Hubby gassed the vehicles and got extra gas for the generator while I shopped for food and other supplies. After that, I sat in front of the TV until I finally went to sleep in total exhaustion sometime early Thurs. morning.

The plane that hit the Pentagon flew over top of me while I was driving down Jeff Davis highway to get to a meeting. I saw it hit in my rear view mirror.

Do you usually tell someone so you don’t have to keep stuff like that to yourself?

I’m glad I don’t have those kinds of flashes. They would probably drive me over the edge.

My daughter left her radio on while she slept, rock station. That station had some guys on every AM that liked to pull pranks. So when I went to wake her up and heard what they were talking about, I thought it was a joke. On my way to work, I listened to the same station and they were still going on only by that time everything had happened except UA 93. I switched stations and figured out it was for real. I went ahead to work, which was right by the SF bay bridge. We all took a few moments and then they told us that the FBI had told them the bridge was a possible target, we all went home and anyone that lived in San Francisco was to work from home until it was safe.
The thing I remember most is the next day, we had a flag waving on top of our high rise office building, and I encountered a woman that was trying to demand we take it down because we “don’t want to provoke them”. I told her what I thought.

This was on the very morning of the attack. No one had any idea of these guys involvement.

“Two weeks after the September 11 attacks, the Federal Bureau of Investigation connected the hijackers to al-Qaeda” wikipedia

Btw:

The guys who flew the plane trained out here.

I had never seen anyone dressed like that out here before, and still to this very day never have again.

I still remember they were also tall and thin, like Bin Laden. One of the guys long whatever you call those cloths, had vertical tan and white stripes, thinner tan ones with more white between. They all had some kind of head pieces on.

I truly wish I had told the FBI. I just thought it was a strange site. I did stare as I passed them. Happened the parking lot to that business was nearly empty of cars, but they were talking out there in the middle of the lot. No cars next to them.

“Numbing” I think describes most of us that day and for the next weeks and months.

How is it even possible for anyone to forget where they were?

I had just finished reading the morning paper and had the TV on Fox for the news. When they said a small plane had hit one of towers I gasped. I hollered for hubby to turn on the TV in his office as the second plane hit. My heart stopped. Another accident? I knew differently.

I got ready and headed to my office. Walked in and turned on the TV. Very little was accomplished.

Nobody worked a full shift that day.
