They don’t do trunk checks going in the gate unless the threat level has been raised.
How’s the gate guard to know who’s a Saudi student and who is permanently assigned, unless there’s an identifying sticker on his car (which there should be, IMO.)

Absurd, indeed. I asked before and got no answer - Why did they have to wait for the sheriffs dept? Where were the MPs?
Because the Escambia County SO’s has had more practice in dealing with active shooter/hostage drills than our Naval Aviators, and the MAA’s (master’s at arms). Some MA’s have trained along side the SO, but many, most I’d wager, have not.
They can be trusted with a 20mm Gatling gun but not a pistol.
A disastrous policy that cost 6 lives. And where was the Navy Shore Patrol, their MPs???? This whole episode stinks like crap. Give these officers their side arms and let them take care of the problem. (Retired Army Officer)
Where are the MPs.
Or even at least contracted civilian security.
Could be they were armed but without ammo due to some stupid Obama type rule.
Apparently there are few bases that allow military personnel to arm themselves. Pretty much all of them are purposely making their command sitting ducks.
Muslim terrorists love Gun Free zone signs = had 10 minutes without armed resistance
WTF is that?!?
You putting out a pushup challenge?
Sad, but they havent figured out the government wants them dead.
Todays Military machine?

the Navy bases here in WA have security forces (Navy Masters at Arms) who are armed.
The sub base has, additionally, Marines, who secure the ‘fireworks’ in their storage facility.
The military has a LOT of generals and admirals in DC that spend their time attending luncheons, teas, dinner parties, golf dates, etc. that include dem gun control freaks. Are you getting the picture?
“The base had to call the local sheriff to come in and take control,,, ABSURD”
Yes, our military does not even fully secure and police its own bases, so any time there is a major incident there is a parade of civilian police cars racing onto the base. Think how nuts that is compared to how other militaries operate. Most of our bases have civilian contractors manning the gates. Even without soldiers packing privately owned weapons, why are there no guard mounts, armed and ready reaction forces, adequate numbers of military police....? Our military thinks that it has become so “professional” that it no longer has time to deal with the basics of soldiership. Using soldiers (and sailors...) to guard their own bases is an affront to their professionalism and inefficient; so are soldiers doing the base landscaping; even polishing their own boots is beneath them. Some of the basic hallmarks of the military lifestyle have been removed and we are left with these “gun free” bases where the law enforcement big dog is the local sheriff. Can you imagine the local sheriff’s department basically taking over a World War II military base in response to a single shooter...?

It is absolutely pathetic when the military cannot defend its own bases. Our Navy and Marine Corps have over 500,000 sailors and Marines in uniform total. I am sure we could spare some for base security. What kind of military needs to defer to the local civilians because it lacks the specialized training to deal with a single bad guy with a pistol?
The Shootout at OK Corral lasted all of 30 seconds.
The last time we went to Bremerton we had to navigate a series of concrete barriers that our car barely fit through. From the paint on them, several cars didn’t quite make it.
They thorough checked both of our IDs; we were harmless looking retirees so they let us go. I would hope they’d ask a few more questions if we looked like jihadis.
So, what kind of ID card were these students sporting? It’s been a while; I retired 20 years ago.
