That trip to London must have cost them a small fortune! I know they had to be worried sick about their family and friends and only wanted to be with them.

the world as we knew it had changed forever.

I was working in my office. The VP over us came in, wanting to know if I was OK. I didn’t know what she was talking about. After she explained and left I turned on my radio and listened in.

I was in the Pentagon, walking on the inside ring, by the windows, when the plane hit on the other side. Saw the fireball rising above the building across the courtyard. Pulled fire alarms, banged on doors, and got out of the building. Helped a few folks with smoke inhalation get to medical attention and calmed down one person who was freaking out. Walked up to the Sheraton at the top of the hill to get to a landline to call my office to tell them I was safe (cell phones were useless), passing all the folks from Henderson Hall who were ordered out of their buildings; one person told me they saw the plane fly by straight down Columbia Pike at low altitude. Once inside the hotel we were told to not leave the building because there was another unaccounted for airplane still in the air (Flight 93). The hotel served lunch and rolled out big TVs so everyone could watch the coverage. One lady saw me in uniform and asked me what all this meant. I answered, “It means the whole world has changed forever.”

You were right about the world changing forever. I can’t even imagine the fear and shock you must have felt when you experienced that explosion so close up. I’m so glad you were in the position you were instead of on the opposite side of the building! And that you were able to help get people help. Thank you for your service!
